Those of you who lost weight with metformin, specifically right away, did you notice if it was tummy weight loss? I was just wondering especially since they say that PCOS sufferers tend to carry excess weight around their tummies.
i've lost 50lbs so far and i've slimmed down everywhere, but i still have the same basic shape which unfortunately means big belly. before losing weight, my belly really stuck out, and some little kids thought i was pregnant. now my belly is about even with my boobs so i only look pregnant when i wear certain styles of clothing. others have said that it does make the belly fat go down, i hope it will for you!
sadly, no, for me - lost weight all over, tummy didn't budge much.
Shrank a tiny bit as I shrank all over ...
I think in time (will take a few years dedication) I can shift the belly too ...
Met has helped me a LOT though and I can't eat carefully without it (too many cravings)

My first go round with Met, I went from a size 16 to a size 12. And all of my weight was in my tummy. Exercising and dieting didn't work for me prior to Met, but once it was added in, the weight and inches started dropping.

That's the key, you still have to eat right and exercise. Met just 'evens the playing field' (to quote ChristyZ)...it's not a weight loss pill, per se.

I agree, it's more of an aide to the diet and exercise. Before I started having trouble with the fibroid, I lost 30 lbs in 3 months with exercise and diet, along with the Met. I got to the point that I wasn't able to do as much exercise, but still did the Met and diet. I maintained the weight. Once I was off the Met, only doing diet and minimal exercise, the weight came right back.
Now that the fibroid is gone, I feel great but am now lacking the motivation to get back up to speed with the exercise, and the weight loss is going a lot slower. I've heard that it can take up to a year for the body to adjust to the hysterectomy, and at 3 months post op, the bouts of fatigue are still hitting me hard in the evenings. So I'm not getting my evening workouts like I did before.
My restrictions from the surgery have been lifted since the beginning of May, and I'm currently 14 lbs down. My basic exercise right now is the ab-lounger (in the morning, and if I can in the evening), bowling 1 night per week, and walking (I've always been in the habit of taking the farthest spot in the parking lot). I'm currently looking for a bike to ride to and from work (only 2 miles from home and there is a trail that I'll be able to take).
On a side note, dh benefited from the diet and exercise too. Having a family, I refused to have to cook 2 seperate meals every day, so they ate what I ate and dh also did walking with me (3 to 5 miles, 2 to 4 evenings a week). He lost 15 lbs in those 3 months, that he has since gained back.

What if the bulk of your weight is in your tummy.... I'm sort of in that boat - it's my only fat deposit... well that and my boobs. I'm hoping as I lose I lose there

That is where all of my weight is too. My arms could use toning, my legs are muscular, and they are both way out of proportion with my abdomin. I did lose a cup size with dieting, but the weight was still coming off of my tummy. I've also noticed with the exercise that I got back my feminine curves that I hadn't seen for years.

Before being diagnosed, I was already on a HUGE health kick to prevent weight gain because I quit smoking in March. I hired a personal trainer (I could afford it since I wasn't paying the $4.50/a pack anymore), weight lifted & cardio 4-5 days a week, cut way down on carbs, ate 6 small meals a day with all organic food and stopped all sodas, processed foods, fried foods-basically anything that tastes really good-LOL.
I did "pride" myself as a teen thru this last year of having a 4 pack stomach. I have been an exercise nut forever (the smoking was the most ignorant habit I did and started later in life when I should have known better-I went thru multiple tramatic events). This past year however, no matter how healthy I ate or how much I worked out, I could not keep the weight off my tummy which was starting to travel down to my thighs. It was a never ending constant struggle. I thought it was cuz I was getting older/not smoking.
ONE WEEK on Glumetza 1000 mg-I dropped 3 lbs! I can honestly say all of it was in the tummy. My pants in the waist area are not tight anymore and I dropped 1 1/2"s. 3 lbs isn't alot, but I'm only 5' 3". My energy level came back and when I went up to 1500 mg on Met, I felt alive again & hardly ever hungry! Unfortunately, I've reinjured my bulging disc in my lower back doing deadlifts so I bet if I was 100% w/workouts, I could lose even more. Now on my cycle of progestrone and my hunger is back w/a vengence. Wish I didn't have to take it!
