Default met & weightloss?

Well i have my follow up appt after my results this week and want to know how many of you have lost weight while on met?
How much have you lost?
Have you done anything different?
The reason why i am asking this is ever since i had my son 16 months ago i have struggled to lose weight and didn't lose any until like 2 months ago when my doctor perscribed me phen a weight loss pill and ever since i have stopped it i have not lost a single lb. I am sick of people making comments about my weight and want to be a healthy weight for my overall health and for my self esteem!
So tell me your story on how met has affected your weight?

I have been doing the GI diet since May and have had some success with it. I had lost 25 lbs.
I started Metformin a little over a week ago and lost 5lbs that first week. The Met just kinda decreased my apetite. I found that I having to remind myself to eat, but nothing sounded good.
I hope to see continued results.
Good luck to you!!

Thumbs up

I have been taking 1500mg of metformin since the end of March and I have lost 15lbs and I have had a regular period for the past 4 months. I also started to work out 3-5 times a week when I began taking met, however before I was taking met I was working out and could not shed a pound. So met has really helped me to shed the pounds. I have also just started the IR diet today and I am looking forward to losing even more weight. Good luck to you and your weight loss, I hope met works out for you.

I've been on Met since June 2. Because of the Met I've had a major decrease in appetite and drink alot of water each day. I have lost 10lbs. so far! I can't wait to see how it works when I'm exercising full time! I love this stuff! Good Luck!

A lot of people that don't see me on a regular basis have noticed that I am losing weight, but the scale isn't showing much of anything...since April, maybe 5 lbs...but I can tell I've lost inches, and that makes me happy!!!

I have also noticed that I have lost more inches than lbs on the scale. I was 192 when I started the Met and now I am at 184...almost 10 lbs in a month in a half

I agree. I am starting my third week of Met and while the scale says I have lost 3 lbs, I can see and feel a difference in the mirror. Every little bit helps and I am thankful for Met...

Hmmm...interesting. I, too, am seeing not much weight loss on the scale after my first month of Met but my body has changed immensely. And I can't blame it on building muscle, because I haven't started a workout program yet. I'm loving the changes in the mirror - I figure once I start exercising (after I get over the one really annoying side effect of Met I have - exhaustion) I'll start to see changes in the numbers.

I was first put on met in 2006....in the first 6 mos of taking 1500mg i lost between 50-60lbs wihtout changing my diet (i typically eat healthy tho....altho i craved BAD food while on it) but i still lost the weight.
This time (i got pg and stopped met while pg and nursing) i've only been on 2 weeks and the first week i lost 4lbs (SICKER than a dog....and didnt' take it properly the second week so i didn't loose anything)

I do know that if you do a low carb 'diet' (alot of ppl like south beach) weightloss seems to be 'easier'....it didn't seem to matter for me...at least not once i started taking the met....GL i knwo how discouraging it can be...after I had my son I only lost the initial weight ( lost a bunch while in the hospital) then I was stuck until i started back on the met....

I lost 60 lbs on it too, however that took a year, it also didn't start right away. I didnt' change what i ate, however the Met decreased my appetite like crazy.

Met decreased my carb cravings and helped me cut down on the amount of "extra" carbs I was eating. I still am able to eat veggies and high fiber stuff but no longer crave candy and ice cream.

Also I did a research paper on Met and PCOS. One article I found stated that met may not help some one loose weight but will help re-distribute the fat away from the abdomen where its most dangerous for us PCOS-ers like for diabetes and IR etc.

I've lost about 5 lbs as well, since starting back on 1500 met about 5-6 weeks ago. I just joined a gym near home, though, so I'm hoping getting exercise back into the mix is what I need. I've also been trying to do a GI diet. Completely gave up real coca-cola last fall, hardest thing I've ever done.....
