Finally I recieved my b/w back and I am IR. I knew it just needed the bw to seal the deal.
I am going to the Dr. monday and will be getting Met. He pretty much listens to anything i suggest since he is new to this too, What is a good dose to be on? I dont want to be too high or low .
I have seen from 500mg to 2000mg. what works ??
also..is it true it is easier to loose weight after i start ?

I've lost over 1/4 of my body weight in 2 years, but that was not just the met, although it helped. My first year I was on Met alone and I lost 13 pounds in a year. But when I started the IR diet and exercising regularly, I lost an additional 25 pounds the second year on Met. It's the combo that really does the trick...Met by itself is pretty limited. Unless we help the drug along by lowering our insulin, it's not as effective. Met takes time, but the effects to my hormones have been so worth it.
In terms of dosage, whatever dose lowers your bloodwork is the one that right for you. For some ladies that's 500 mg, for others it's more. Your Dr will use his discretion along with bloodwork to determine where you personally should be.
Good luck!

doctors use met for different things for PCOS women....some can have improved symptom control on a lower dose, some need higher. What it all depends on is HOW IR you are...it has nothing to do with weight..just those hormones. LIke Christy, I agree that you must combine it with exercise and an eating lifestyle that is lower in carbs to help the drug do all it can for you. There are no shortcuts...you must do all three. The met, diet and exercise. It may take time to see results, so be prepared to be patient with yourself, and not everyone has the same weight loss results on met. Taking it isn't a guarantee of weight loss. Myself, I have been very fortunate in my experience with met, but my results are not typical, and I also had to work very hard to reach my goal. But, the met has been successful for many of us, so good luck to you, and let us know how you're doing!
