I conceived my daughter with 1500 mg of Met and no low-carbing. I am wondering if that was just a fluke or if I can do it again. I cant low-carb because I am still nursing plus I really hate doing it. I am not incredibly overweight (165 lbs) and am losing a steady 5-8 lbs a month with weight watchers and working out. Has anyone else had success with Met and no low-carbing?

I have but I really think the bottom line is that you lose weight. Some cysters can't seem to lose weight unless they low-carb as it seems to sensitize them more to their own insulin. It might be that you aren't as insulin resistant as another cyster so you *can* lose weight (which is the ultimate goal) on things like weight watchers and exercise. I have gotten pg with both of my children by basically counting calories and exercising and losing weight. I didn't really start having any serious PCOS problems until after the birth of my second child. I HTH!

I take Met and don't low-carb and its working for me. If it's working- stick with it. Low carb maybe the current mantra, but its not the only thing that works. Good luck

I lost a minimal amount of weight and my hormones labs wouldn't budge with just met and I tried it with exercise for over a year. When I added the low carbing, I lost an additonal 38 pounds in the next 12 months and my labs (testosterone, cholesteral, androgen, glucose) all dropped like rocks into normal ranges. It may be touted right now as a way to lose weight, but for IR women it is so much more than that. I will never under-estimate the power of low carbing and my hormones ever again. Low carbing keeps insulin levels lower and therefore the met doesn't have to work as hard to keep them down.
We all have decisions to make about the way we treat our PCOS/IR, but the bottom line is, if we cut out low carbing, we cut out a huge advantage in managing our PCOS. In fact my Dr refuses to keep me on the met if I'm not doing my part diet-wise to lower my insulin, because the met cannot be as effective when we eat to swing our insulin...it counter-acts the drug. I am eternally glad that I made the commitment to do it..my life is infinitely better.
Good luck to you!
