Question Met XR ????

Got a question ladies....I was on met for about a year and a half at 2550mg. I was on it to help regulate my insliun while trying to get pregnant After having my gallbladder out i have so much stomach trouble taking just 1000mg of met, i brought my dose down to 500 thinking that i just needed to get used to it again.....same trouble. I wasn't even able to really go any where because my stomach was so upset. My dr now wants me to try the XR of met saying that the irritation to the stomach is so much less with this version. He really wants me to take met because it's so safe and i'm only 8pts away on my gloucose test from being diabetic. I'm wondering is it really easier to take??? And what are the other drug alternatives if i can no longer take met???

Hi, I don't know of any alternatives, but I've read over and over again that Met ER is much easier on the stomach that regular Met. I've been taking Met ER for a few weeks now and I have not had an upset stomach once. You should give it a try (plus, you don't have to split doses up since it's extended release). Good luck!

Met XR is awesome. I have never had the stomach problems with it. I don't know any natural alternatives, so I can't help you there, but I take 2000 mg of the XR version of Met and I LOVE IT.

I started off on Fortamet XR 1000 mg. from my doctor and then for some reason it got switched to metformin. The met made me SICK whereas the Fortamet didn't as much. The met made me gain weight, have headaches, and feel so fatigued and want to eat like crazy. The fortamet xr still upsets my stomach, but i just started on it on Thursday, so hopefully I will get used to it soon.

Met ER is def. better then the regular. From the way I understand it, it released the meds over a period of time so the effects are less then it all being deposited into the body all at the same time.
