What dosage have most people started on for met. Doctor just put me on it and wanted me to start at 500mg but I let him know that I had read most people start at higher doses. So he gave me the go ahead for a 1000mg. Thanks

Hi. My RE started me on 1000mg last week. I think I should have started out on 500mg b/c I felt like I was dying this past weekend. Everybody doesn't have the same side effects, so hopefully you'll do fine starting on 1000mgs. Good Luck.

I started out on 1500mg of Met. I am now at 1700mg. I think I have heard some other people on this board say that 1500mg should be the minium that you take. Maybe someone else who knows more about it than me will respond. Sorry not much help.

I just started on met this week. Each pill I take is 500mg, my dr said to start with one pill a day for at least a week, then bump up to two pills. If I'm handling the 1000mg good by the end of two weeks I can add another pill. Hopefully I will make it to the full 1500mg dose she wants me on.

Good luck, I'm dreading the side effects I've been reading about but looking forward to some good results.

Hey there! I am new I am just starting on the metphormine also. I am going to the pharmacy to pick it up after work. I am starting on the one pill a day for a week and then increasing to two and so on. I guess we shall see how well I do on it!!!

I have been on Met for about two months now, this time around, and I think it's definately easier to go up gradually in steps. If you take one pill for a week and on the second week are still having bad side effects maybe even wait another couple of days to adjust to amount before you start the second pill. Same with the third or fourth until you get to the full amount your doctor prescribed. Just remember even one pill is helping and is better then nothing.

My doc first started me out with 1000mg, then bumped me up to 2000 mg. I have really bad diarrhea from it, but I can't decide what is worse, the side effects from not taking it or from taking it. Good luck!
