Hello, I am a newbie, and I was diagnosed in September after finally seeing the ob/gyn about not having period in over a year. I just was hoping I would return to normal eventually. Well, with my little one going on 3 and a half, we are beginning to want a little brother or sister for her.
Anyway, I had a lot of blood work done, fasting. And an ultrasound. The results came back with high levels of glucose in my blood (even after fasting 11hrs.). Which I was then told I am nearly diabetic or early stages of. Also my ultrasound had lots of cysts all over my ovaries, I am guessing from reading up is what happens when eggs don't get fully developed due to imbalance in horomones.
I was prescribed 500 met. 2 weeks, then 1000 met 2 weeks, then move up to 1500 met from then on out. Also to get back on a diet plan and work out.
Besides the side effects, what else is happening to my body when I take these? Should I notice changes? Right now I am in the middle of the 2 weeks on 1000 met. a day.
Will this help me to lose weight without diet and exercise? To this point it seems not. Just lose easier I am thinking.
Thanks, I am glad I found this board...it was totally by accident!!
Hi JuniorlilyI am new at this as well. Have started 500 metformin for one month and then up to 1000 metformin. I am trying to find out what diet I should try and am thinking of maybe increasing my daily activity by walking or something to see if that helps.
I have been trying to have a baby for quite some time now and after working with my gyn for nearly 4 years I just found out a few days ago that I have PCOS.
I will be going for ovarian drilling in November and if I do not get pregnant after that I will be seeing a fertility specialist.
Did anyone suggest to you a good diet plan to follow? I am the type that likes to have a diet plan -- I know I need to cut out the carbs which is going to be a major change for me.
Glad to see that met helped you lose weight! I was also curious to know what other changes I would be noticing to my body and mental well being.?
LauraVid, since I have all the old information on Weight Watchers at home, I can follow that without having to buy anything except better choices for low point foods. My Ob/gyn seemed to think that WW was a really great program to follow.
I have only actually done it my first week after being perscribed. I have been keeping off the 5lbs I lost that week plus one more.
If anything I know this metformin must be helping me to keep a steady weight. For the last year and a little more I just thought I was the biggest loser, and not in a good way, the way I would gain so easily and so fast! Now I know that with high insulin it happens.
