Default Metformin 2000mg

Hi Ladies,

My doc finally put me on Met and by reading some of the posts I am a little confused in regards to the kind of Met I am taking. I looked at the bottle and it only says Metformin 2000mg. I read in some posts that there is a Metformin XR. Can anybody tell me what is the difference?

I have been taking both pills before bed time, although the bottle says twice daily. Does it matter when to take it??

I have been doing Slim Fast for the past month and I have not lost any weight at all. I wonder if it is because the bars and shakes have a lot of carbs on it. Any suggestions??

Thanks

You do not have the extended release version. Some say that the normal version (the one you are on) is more effective than the XR kind. It would probably be better to take 1000mg in the morning, and 1000mg at night. The Slim Fast is probably not a good diet for women with PCOS. Stick with a low carb diet. Always balance any carbs you do have with a protein. Eat several smaller meals a day. Drink TONS of water and try to exercise. The diet and exercise will help the met. work better. Good luck.

Post To avoid stomach upset try this...

This is how my Endocrinologist had me start it:

Met Dosage
First three days: 1/2 pill once a day w/ Breakfast (250mgs a day total)

Next three days: 1/2 pill w/ Breakfast and 1/2 pill with Lunch (500mgs a day total)

Next three days: 1/2 pill w/ each meal (750mgs a day total)

Next three days: 1 pill w/Breakfast, 1/2 pill w/Lunch, 1/2 pill w/Dinner (1,000mgs a day total)

Next three days: 1 pill w/Breakfast, one pill w/ Lunch, 1/2 pill w/ Dinner (1,250mgs a day total)

Next three days: 1 pill with each meal (1500mgs a day).
Later on I moved up to 2000mgs a day

You can change up dosage every five days or more instead of three (if you are having stomach problems). I really hope that it will work for you. I will never give up my Met.

Thank you ladies. This is going to help a lot. I greatly appreciate your advise.

I am going to quit the slim fast diet. I will follow your advice and cut on carbs and continue to drink lots of water. I know I need to exercise but it is so hard to get going. I fell a year ago and hurt my back. I went to the chiropractor and it seems he made things worst. But I am really going to try start walking on my neighborhood.

I only gained 17 pounds with my first son, but with my second I gain 35 pounds and I am having a hard time shedding those last 20 pounds. I really hope that the met will help me lose weight.

Have a blessed day!!!

I know what you mean about the exercise. I HATE it. I do have a really great exercise plan and for the first time and seeing some decent results (although I've only been doing this a little over a month). I do cardio 3-4 times a week (my goal would be 4-5 days, but too busy to do it more). I just learned how important your anabolic heart rate is and how you need to get your heart rate up there, but not too high in order to get the most out of your work-out. Then I do strength training 2-4 times per week, but never 2 days in a row. I do every major muscle group. I would highly suggest to anyone to get a personal trainer for like one session. I did that...she taught me what machines to use and what setting and make sure I was in proper form so I wouldn't hurt myself. She also helped figure out my anabolic rate and a few other things. I think that's why Im seeing results so much quicker now. Anyway...just some thoughts on that. Good luck.
