Angry Metformin

Hi
I have been trying to find a consultant who knows about PCOS!

So far I have seen a fertility consultant and 2 gynae consultants and none of them will treat PCOS. All I get is lose weight which as you know is easier said than done.
Since coming off of the pill 5 years ago I have put on nearly 5 stone and am desperate. When I ask about metformin I am told that I can't have it because it is still being tested and is not licensed for the treatment of PCOS.
Sorry for ranting but I do not know where to turn to.
I live in London and am happy to go private if I get the help I need.
Any help that you can offer will be great.
Cheers
Tassy

where in London are you???

In NE London, you could see Mr Viniker privately at BUPA Roding hospital. He is prepared to prescribe Metformin.

Good luck, just because they are a consultant do not think they know everything. Some of the consultants I have meet seem to know no thing. ( I really pitty the patients) My GP knows far more about pcos that any of the consultants I have seen as well.

Hi Tassy,

Lis is right--Mr Viniker is great. He's my gyn after getting the run-around from my local doctors. One of his specialisations is PCOS, and he has a tremendous underestanding-- here's a link to his website: www.2womenshealth.co.uk
He has appointments in three locations. I got to BUPA Roding, and it's only about 30-40 minutes on the Central Line.

Also... about Met and approval for PCOS... I've heard that met will probably never be officially categorized for PCOS b/c it's such an inexpensive medication, and the drug company has nothing to gain by doing so. So pathetic.

Good luck with everything,
Jen

HI

All the best in getting the Met. I know what a struggle it can be to get it!
