Default Metformin

My dr. justed prescribed Metformin other than diarrhea, has anyone had any other side effects. When I took it for a few days by the afternoon I felt really weak, could not consentrate, and had to go lay down. I really want to get pregnant, is there any thing natural to take that will help. Thanks

I had no side effects from 500 Met, but in the next couple weeks I am upping it to 1000 per Dr's instructions. I'm told taking Met in the evening if you can helps moderate any symptoms you may have, since they would hit while you are sleeping.

Taking extra B12 seems to help some ladies with the fatigue from Met. If you are concerned about dosage, ask your doctor what is safe while ttc.

I didn't have any problems. My doc has me increase the Met very slowly. I'm on 500 Twice a day. In a couple of weeks it will be increased.

Good Luck.

I was on met. for a while--and it made me sick. I was nauseous and dizzy and had an upset stomach all the time. My doc simply wouldn't help. She wouldn't listen and kept saying that I had to take it.

I'm going to keep trying something else though.

I am on 750 of Met now and am about to go up to 1500 mgs once a day. It gives me terrible stomach issues now, but they're starting to ease up... and come to think of it, I have felt fatigued. Hopefully once my body adjusts both of the side effects will lessen.

I also have taken met (2,000mg per day) and had to progress up the chain very slowly as it made me terribly sick and extremely tired. I had zero energy.

As a nurse, I can tell you that it is best to slowly increase your dosage. It is very NORMAL to get sick on met. Once the diahrrea has stopped and your body has adjusted to the pill then up the pill by one. Always allow yourself a few days without feeling sick before you increase your dosage again.Do this each time you have to increase until you are at your max dosage per your doctor. This does seem to help with the issue of living your life on the porcelain throne.

B12 is an excellent way to counteract the exhaustion met can cause. You can get B12 caplets in any pharmacy. Another thing to keep in mind is that once you are at your max dosage and your body has time to adjust to the meds you should start to feel better and less fatigued.

When you're first starting out on Met I recommend taking it just after having a small snack and just before a meal. I would do it in the evening hours so that when and if the fatigue hits you are sure to sleep it off! I found that when I took the met after eating a few crackers or having some toast and then having dinner shortly after I didnt get as sick. This did seem to help.

I started right off taking 1000 mg a day and with that came the nausea and diahrrea. Ginger works great for the nausea though, I take pills cause I don't like tea, but that would work too.

Hopefully you will feel better soon

I'm on Met - and for some reason my gyno put me on 1500mg a day to start off with! Not letting me get used to it with a lower dose? (Must be a reason behind it I suppose!) I've been feeling pretty weak and have had the trots on and off now since started it..... lovely!! lol
I have been told by others that some foods react differently with met, at the moment I'm trying to avoid fatty foods to see if that makes a difference!!

I've never heard of a doc starting someone off at 1500mg immediately. Metformin is a pill that has to be gradually increased in order to gain the effects from the meds and not make you incredibly sick.

I would discuss that issue with your Doc because thats not a good thing to just jump start into Met at 1500mg.

I had diarrhea, hot flashes, severe nausea and stomach pains for the first two weeks of the medication.
