My Mood: Points: 33,582.13 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 33,582.13 | Lots of thin cysters are on metformin --I have been on it but just recently went off (my RE doesn't think it will help me,and so far, it hasn't). Recent research is saying it's not as helpful for non-insulin resistant cysters as they once thought. But it's still not definite. Some of the thin cysters swear by it for helping them get pg. I say it can't hurt, and it might help, so it's worth a try.

My Mood: Points: 29,239.81 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 29,239.81 | I agree with Tummy. It seems like it helps some and not others, but it's cheap and easy, so it's worth a try, in my opinion. I was on it for a year, and I DID get pg in that time, so it could have been the Met, but it's hard to tell. It didn't give me AF back, though, so I don't know for sure.

How are you prescribed metformin, do you get a blood/saliva test??

My Mood: Points: 33,582.13 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 33,582.13 | You don't even have to be insulin resistant. The theory is that all PCOSers have some degree of insulin insensitivity, even if the lab tests don't prove it, so it is thought that metformin might help all of us. Has nothing to do with obesity. A blood test can be ordered to see if you are insulin resistant (according to laboratory standards). Whoever worked up your PCOS diagnosis should be able to order it (ob/gyn, pcp, whoever).

Points: 4,662.17 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 4,662.17 | I was curious also about other thin cysters experiences with Met. I started it last month. Previously I never o'd and never have cycles, but after taking 2000mg Met for 5 weeks, I started AF! I feel like maybe it's doing something for me!

My Mood: Points: 354.32 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 354.32 | In my post previously I said that Metformin was a generic of fortamet, but I did some research and realized that it is the same thing. I've been on it for about three days now and the only thing i hate about it is that i am thirsty all the time, but IO drink plenty of water, no sodas. Right now I only take one a day (500mg), next week i start taking two a day (1000mg). My obgyn also told me to take a multivitamin each day because the fortamet reduces my vitamin B-12. |
