Default metformin and af

I am wondering what metformin does to your cycle as in, if I start taking it now, 5 days into it, does it make me start over in my cycle or just continue from where I am, wherever that is.
I know metformin is not a fertility drug, it just improves the chances of ovulation.

it doesnt make you start over. its more of a gradual effect. it depends what dose you are taking and how long you are taking. it may not make you ovulate this first month. it might take a few months or you might need a higher dosage...it wont induce a period though.

Jinnie - are you sure about the induced periods? That's what my doctor prescribed the met to me for and it worked. I finally have AF again!

Met doesnt induce a bleed but encourages ovulation so you should start to bleed more regularly. It does not work like Provera where u take it a few days then bleed.
Ive been on Met since Oct, i had a period by myself in Jan and one in Feb, but its gone on for ages, on both occaisions had v tender breasts for 1 wk before bleed started, then spotting for couple of days before onset of proper thing, which on days 3-5 hurts like hell then slowly stops by day 8 but still spotting till day 10-11. Feel like i only get one week of feeling normal inbetween it all. Think i felt better when my period was really random, like every 3 mths or so.
I think for me, Met makes my period more frequent and last longer. Good luck x

I think in a nutshell, Met normalizes your hormones. So, yes, I think its possible that it regulates your periods. I started Met about 2 months ago. Around that same time, I started 10 days of progesterone b/c my periods never started on their own. So I had AF, then on CD 18 (and about 5 weeks into Met), I started again. It had to have been the Met. It was my first "natural" (not induced) cycle as far back as I can remember. Now I'm just hoping I ovulate, too! If Met alone (or even w/Clomid) does it, it will be a miracle drug as far as I'm concerned!

That all said, I would go ahead and start it now. It will take time for you to get up to your full dose and for your body to respond, so no sense in waiting.

Good luck!
