Hello I am new to this board but not to PCOS. I just had my miracle boy on 9/15/09 after a 3+ year struggle with infertility that included clomid, follistim, and many iuis. Ultimately he was conceived with just the use of metformin 2000mg (well and dh). I stayed on the Metformin thru 1st trimester but was taken off after that. I am currently breastfeeding my son but dealing with supply issues. I mostly pump due to an emergency surgery when he was 9 days old that resulted in a week long hospital stay as well as subsequent breast infections and a breast abscess. I am able to provide him with a little more than half breast milk and the rest we supplement with similac. I am glad that I am able to provide him with any milk at all but would love to increase my supply and ultimately have him only receive breast milk. I have been working with a lactation consultant and I am taking a supplement called more milk plus. It has helped a little but not enough to meet his needs fully. I have a bottle of Metformin and talked with my sons pediatrician and the lactation consultant about the safety of metformin and they both agreed it was okay. But I am still hestitant especially since the bottle says not to take while breastfeeding. So does anyone have any experience with metformin during breastfeeding? If you could please share your experience.
What was your dosage?
When did you start taking it (how soon after birth or was it during pregnancy)?
Did your baby have any side effects?
Did it help with your milk supply?
Any info and experience would be great. I tried to post on the breastfeeding thread but it said I did not have enough posts
