I've been wanting to start a buddy thread of all women that are taking, starting to take, or have taken Metformin for years. Welcome! I encourage all to come and celebrate the joys or express the hurdles of PCOS and controlling it with Metformin.
I can't wait to get to know more women that are like me with PCOS and taking Metformin to help.

I want to quickly introduce myself. My name is Rachel and I was diagnosed with PCOS in November of 2007, after struggling for two years to become pregnant. The doctors all thought it would be easy and no problem to get pregnant. So...(as you may see in my siggy) I've taken some fertility pills with no avail. I finally after months and months of no success started to beg my doctor to let me try Metformin. She refused for months...until I told her I was going on a break until Fall...I've had enough and was so stressed out and my relationship with my DH was lacking...alot of things. So, she finally agreed to try Metformin to see what happens. I am on 250mg and slowly going to increase to 1500mg. I can't wait to hear other stories and wish everyone the best of luck!

I am also new to PCOS. I was dx'ed in May 08 and have been on Metformin ER for a month now. I can already tell huge differences in the way I feel. Also, I ovulated this month, which is progress in itself to me! I am up to 1250 mgs daily and will go ahead and up it to 1500 mgs this weekend. I never really thought about having any medical problems, because I don't really have any symptoms, but since using Met., I have realized how out of whack my body must have really been!
Hi my name is Andrea and I was DX in 2007 with PCOS and possibly lupus or rheumatoid arthritis. I am still getting tested for lupus and RA. I was on 1000mg of Met for a few months and then had labs done and was told that my male hormone levels are too high so the Dr. put me on the extended release tabs 2000mg. That was yesterday. I took the first dose of the ER last night this AM and will take it again tonight. I am scared that I will get the side effects but who knows only time will tell. I had some good results with the Met though. I lost 17lbs so far and my moods have just been so much better. I hope you all have good results with the Met, I have faith in my Dr. and he tells me things will definitley go back together soon. I am not trying to conceive right now but will be in a few years so my dr. suggested the IUD for now. Hopefully this doesnt have the same effects as the BCP. Well, I guess that is all for now talk again soon!!!
Hi ladies,
I was dx with PCOS in 2006 after two miscarriages, several failed IUIs and 5 rounds of Clomid. I wasn't put on Met until February 2007. I was on 1500mg, and with that and a final round of Clomid, we got pregnant the first month. For me it was a miracle drug. I didn't even mind the icky side effects since it worked so well for us. I genuinely hope it does the same for you. I'm now TTC again and will most likely go back on Met. I hope it does the trick again. Good luck Rachel!
Hi all! I wanted introduce myself as well. I'm LaDonna, and was diagnosed with PCOS, 17 July, and just yesterday afternoon was given Glucophage XR 500 mg to be taken once per day. I didn't start it yesterday because we had so much going on, and to be honest, I'd heard a couple of horror stories about side effects, so I was unsure of taking it. So today, at Supper time it will be my first pill. We'll see how it goes. I have high hopes that everything will be just fine. My husband says he has a feeling that this is really going to help me. I look forward to getting to know all of you!

hello all. i was just diagnosed with pcos last week.... and i am new to this site as well. i hate to admit this... my primary dr. would not prescribe met to me, he suggested i see my obgyn or fertility specialist... unfortunately, my current insurance doesnt cover infertility.... my mom had been given metformin for her diabetic issues, but she no longer takes them.... so, i decided to start taking this on my own.... i know this probably isnt wise.. but i'm so hopeful & ready to conceive.... any advice? im on day two... and i've really only experienced slight heartburn. do you all chart your ovulation the same as a normal person would?
I want to join this group also. I was dx in 2004. I have been on and off Met for the last 4 years. I am going to be starting my 2000mg tomorrow. I am hoping I will not get so sick. I am planning on sticking to it better than I have before. I have also been taking Provera and I was at one point taking Yasmin. I am trying to stay encouraged about taking pills every day again. WOW the change that is about to happen.

Hi ladies! I would love to be a part of this group as well! I was diagnosed w/pcos just this year and have been on met for about five months. It makes me feel a little sick, but not too bad. I take three 500mg pills a day. (morning, noonish, & night) At the beginning it regulated my cycle right away, but I have never ovulated on my own. We've tried chlomid and repronex injections, but still no success. And now, I have not had a period since April. So, something is off.... I just finished my perscription of prometrium to induce a period and now I am waiting for one to start. All the waiting is enough to drive me bonkers.

Hi Everyone, I, too, was diagnosed with PCOS in June of this year. When I was diagnosed, I hadn't had a period in 3 months. My obgyn gave me my first round of prometrium and AF finally came (never thought I'd want that to happen =) ). I went back to my obgyn for a follow up on bloodwork and progression with the Prometrium. I was on day 7 of my cycle, so I was able to take Clomid for a couple days. I was given 50 mg/day Clomid and Met (with a gradual dosage of 1500mg/day). Had day 21 bloodwork done, and no "O". My progesterone level was a 1. How depressing!! I'm now on my second round of Prometrium to start AF again, and my dosage of Comid was upped to 100m/day. I've not had too many side effects of the Met, but I'm still new to it. Would love to find someone to chat with reguarding frustrations, etc with the whole experience. My DH and I have been TTC since January. Any advice?? Or anyone want to be buddies? Best of luck to everyone!!!!!

Hi everyone, I was DX in April/May this year and have been on 1700mg of Mat now for about a month. Apart from bad reactions to pizza (low fat) and salad I'm not really noticing a difference but I'm trying to be patient and hoping that it'll kick in soon! It'd be great to share stories with everyone else out there in the same boat!
Hi ladies! I was dx in Feb. of this year and currently take met 500 mg 2x a day. I was dx by my ob/gyn but was put on met by my endo. The last few months have been a roller coaster with trying to get my issues under control (also have hashimotos) so hopefully now that we seem to have things under control I will be able to fully appreciate the benifits of the met. I am finding out what foods I can and cannot eat. Not always the most pleasant experience. So far fast foods, pizza, iceberg lettuce are the main culprits with many others and finding new foods that are a no-no daily.
I was DX in 2004 and have been on (and off at times) Met since then. I was put on 850 x 3 in January of this year but I could not stand the SE so I asked my GP to take them back down to 500mg x 3.
Looking forward o meeting you all
