Hi! I'm currently 17dpo and getting ready to do a hpt in a few days and have a question..... My endo told me a few months ago that when I get pregnant to call him right away and to stop taking Metformin. He said that if need be he will treat me as a gestational diabetic with insulin injections. I'm wondering if I can switch to Chromium Picolinate during pregnancy??? I will do injections if need be for the sake of my baby but if I can avoid it I will. So I was thinking perhaps Chromium is a possible solution. The reason I worry is diabetes runs in my family and my endo has said that by being pcos and my family history I'm at a really high chance of developing diabetes. I didn't get gestational with my daughter....however that was before my diagnosis and I was almost 10 years younger when I had her. Any advice or suggestions would be most appreciated! Thank you!
I took met through my whole pregnancy, and chromium, but every doctor is different. I still showed high sugars near the end, but not enough to be classed as having GD.
If you want to go with the chromium, you should also alter your diet as much as possible to eliminate refined carbs and all simple sugars and stick to high protein foods, healthy fats, and complex carbs from whole grains (100%, not just stuff that says it contains whole grains) and legumes. If diabetes can be managed with a diet like that, there is no reason why you can't fend off GD as long as possible with it.

Just my two cents, but I believe if you stay on the met through the first trimester, it will reduce your chance of miscarriage. I continued taking mine when I accidentally conceived (after years of trying lol), and she was the only pregnancy to survive. Maybe you should ask your doc why he/she wants you off the met before you decide anything?
My RE is a leading resercher in Chromium Picinolate for IR. His name is Dr. Michael Lydic. If you google his name you may come up with articles. I don't know if he has written anything on taking it while pg though.
I hope this helps
