Default metformin and clomid??

I have been taking Metformin for 2 months (after taking progesterone, provera, etc) now and still no ovulation. The ob/gyn gave me Clomid yesterday to take for 5 days (as well as increasing my Metformin). We are TTC, but I was wondering if anyone has had any success with Metformin and Clomid. It has been pretty frustrating. Thanks!

Renee-What Met dose are you currently on? I'm on my second round of clomid with Met and I haven't gotten a BFP yet (I'm testing next week), but I have ovulated both times with clomid. My OB said that taking met with clomid really helps, and so far it seems to be working with me. I started Met about a month before I started the clomid and slowly worked my way up to the 2000mg dose. Not sure though if I would ovulate with Met alone. Good luck to you!

I'm on 1500mg of Met and tried 50mg of Clomid and no O. Before I started Met I tried about 4 rounds of Clomid going up to 150 and only O'd once so for me, I don't think Clomid worked well. I'll be starting injections probably in Dec or so.

I've been on Met since July..tried clomid 50, then 100, now this month I'll be going for the big 150. Hopefully I won't go too crazy. Last month with the clomid I was empathizing with the old ladies I work with -- hot flashes! No O yet. Progesterone levels on day 21 have been .6 and 1.1 respectively. Has anyone else had them so low? Please let there be someone out there who can offer me hope of at least releasing the little egg (it was present and good to go on day 14...just can't get the sucker out.) Presently on progesterone to make AF arrive. Last month it came on day 7 (while taking that pill). This month I'm really hoping for it to take at least 3 days after the full 10 days of taking it for AF to come as my DH will be traveling for 2 weeks. Otherwise this month is a complete wash (no point taking clomid), which is rather depressing since my "cycle" takes a good 40+ days with the prometrium and all. Question - prometrium has made me SO incredibly sad -- I sobbed for 2 straight days...today was a little better on the sadness end - does anyone else get this way? I was seriously contemplating checking myself into a counselor yesterday. But today, a lot better. I feel so bad for my DH! Anyway, this is my first post here. Really happy to see that there are other thin cysters out there (well, not happy, cuz it stinks for us, but comforted to know I'm not alone.) Thanks for any experiences you share...

I increased the metformin from 1000 mg to 1500 mg after taking it for 2 months. I took the increased dosage of metformin with the 50 mg of clomid and last week just increased it to 2000 mg. I have yet to O and haven't AF on my own (or with the pill) since October 2007. I am going in to test my progesterone levels next week. The clomid and metformin combo made me feel so ill. The last time I was at the ob-gyn, my E2 levels went down (and were so low!). I am thin (5'9.5" and weigh about 130) and have gained about 10 pounds (in a healthy way) in the past few months since I first found out I had PCOS. My DH is super supportive, but I am just so overwhelmed--just want those little eggs to be on their way!!

Hi Ladies....I'm also a thin cyster and I've had success with taking clomid and metformin. I started Met in Feb. I started with 1000 mg and worked myself up to 2000mg. My cycles became a bit more regular....about every 35 - 40 days but I really don't think I was ever O'ing on my own. I did my first round of clomid in Oct, 50 mg on CD 5 - 9 and I got my BFP on my first round! I had on HCG trigger shot when my follie was nice and ripe since I wanted to help guarantee that I would O. If your not doing the HCG trigger shot I would highly recommend it. It's so nice to be able to time your O so you can know when to BD or have your IUI. The trigger shots have about a 95% success rate at making you O if you have a good follie. Good luck!

I have been on met for three months now. I've worked my way up to 1500mg. I have been waiting to get AF on my own. My last AF on my own was May 2008. I was thinking about starting clomid soon because it's getting sad not even being able to try since I haven't O'd since May. I kept thinking the met would start working, but nothing has happened so far. Anyone taking met who it took over 3 months, but you started getting AF on your own?

Renee, Tracy, Jen...thanks for sharing -- we'll get the little follies out! Jen - interesting info on the "trigger" shot. I'm going to ask about that this round, in addition to the clomid 150. Shoot, if I'm going to feel that aweful I at least want a shot at O, you know?! Jen - how far along are you?? Happy Thanksgiving!

I just had my first round of clomid this month. I am waiting for an lh surge using opk. My follicle was 20mm on day 13. Is it a sure thing you will ovulate with a mature follicle?

Default Preggo with Clomid

Hi,

My doctor started me on Metforman and I was on it for about 2 months, but I had a bad reaction to it and he changed me to clomid. I was on clomid for 3 cycles and got pregnant. Best of luck!

Hi renee & ladies,

I am definitely not a thin cyster, but have been using met and clomid, so i hope you don't mind if I post here..?
I was put on met 500mg in early July this year to see if it would help with severe insulin resistance (to stage of pre-type 2 diabetes) by my gp. We had our first visit with fertility specialist about 2 weeks later & he straight away told me to start taking 1000mg met and he prescribed clomid to see if it would get me to o. I was having 2 periods a month, but annovulatory (not o'ing). My first cycle of 50mg clomid began on 8.8.08, and I was told it was unlikely to make me o at such a low level dose, however, the follie developed to a huge 26mm, only one though. I did opk's for about 7-9 days but got no +, then they got me to do a blood test about a week after they thought I would have o'd & lh came back at 35, which apparently meant I had o'd!
We weren't able to ttc that cycle as dh had just gone through surgery on a double inguinal hernia, which left him unable to dtd, unfortunately!
To give you hope, I have done 2 more cycles of clomid since then, and actually got +'s on opk's and looks like I o'd both those cycles too, although we didn't do blood work to check lh levels those times.
I just finished my 4th clomid cycle last week, I had the option to go up to 100mg clomid, but instead I started taking a 3rd dose of met (making a total of 1500mg met a day) to see if that might help with getting a bfp this time. If we don't get a bfp this cycle, they are probly going to check for blocked fallopian tubes, so i am hoping like crazy that this month is the one for our bfp!!
I found I didn't o til around cd 21-23 on the first 2 cycles, and last month I was sick and i didn't get a +opk reading until cd25, so my cycles are going for 35 days or more, which seems like forever!!
Anyway, sorry for the long reply, but yes, met & clomid has worked for me to o, so have faith that it can and does work! Best of luck everyone, and lots of sticky baby dust!!

mkopley: It's not a gaurantee. The first round of C50 month my doc didn't check for a folicle, but I know I didn't O because my of my temps, day 21 P=.6, and so I had to induce AF. Second round at C100 ultrasound showed good follie and good lining, but again, no temp indication, day 21 P=1.1, no OPK indication, and once again, had to induce AF. I'll be starting C150 tomorrow...I'm also oging to talk to my doc about an O induction shot this round -- read from other ladies on here about its success. Good news -- even if you don't O, at least you're able to prep a follie! Best wishes -- I hope C is more successful for you than it's looking to be for me!

Thanks ladies
I am trying to use as few drugs and interventions as possible. If after 2-3 tries with the clomid and metformin and we still are getting no where then maybe I will try the ovidril trigger shot. I use a wonderful RE that has been so open to taking things one step at a time.

Mkopley--I hear ya about wanting to use as few drugs as possible. I waited 5 months after diagnosis before starting Metformin.
I go tomorrow to test my progesterone levels, but I definitely want to look into the trigger shots. I am pretty much up for anything--fertility yoga, IR diets, etc. If no O on this round of Clomid, I am going up to 100 and hoping for the best!!

I ovulated on metformin and clomid, but did not get pregnant until I did injections, iuis and metformin.
