I believe they are the same thing. They both stand for extended release. Hope the headache is gone.

I have another question about Met ER. I was on Met (not met er) taking 2000mg per day. My new doctor changed it to 500 Met ER one per day. When I got it filled the pharmacist asked me why my doctor was dropping my dose!!
The last thing I need!! I called my new doc and told him what the pharmacist said. He increased it to to take 2 pills per day, 1 in the am and 1 in the pm.
My question is: What is the equivalent dose in Met ER? I need help from my cysters!!!

Met and MetXR are the same metformin drug...the difference is that the XR is a time release version of met. In other words, you would be able to take your full day's dose of XR in the morning, and it would work all day. With regular met, you have to spread the dosage out through the day to keep an even level in your system. Hun, I don't know why the doc lowered your dose, you'll need to ask him. The met ER should be the same mg as regular met...the only difference is that the ER is time release. Talk with your doc, hun!

To add to this XR does not have as many side effects as the Reg Metformin.
