Default Metformin ER & Nausea--what should I do?

I just started on Metformin ER 500 mg/day. Of course, I have to be in the 9% that gets diarrhea from it and other abdominal distress...

Has anyone else had this problem with the ER formulation? If so, what did you do to alleviate discomfort?

I started taking 1 pill (500mg) a day for two weeks and worked my way up to 3 at a time a day. It's been about 6-7 weeks since I been on it and the side effects can suck. I was nauseous at first but it will gradually get better once you get use to it. I still have diarrhea and stomach discomfort depending on what I eat. (I know for certain that I can't eat cereal and milk)

Try cutting carbs...it's hard to diet and to stop eating foods that you're use to, but it will work out best while on this medication and lifestyle change in general.

I started out at 1000mg, twice a day, in March. I lived on Pepto. I never had the bathroom issues at all, but I never knew what would set off the upset tummy.. It could be something I had eaten before, with no problem, then one day, BAM! I started probiotics, and have not really had any problems with that since!

Default I've had the same issue

Hey I just wanted to share with you that I've been taking metformin for almost 3 years but could never take a dose higher than 1000mg a day or I'd get sick. my new endo put me on glumetza and so far is great! Nausea isn't as bad.

Also, to help with stomach problems, I take Acidophillus pearls everyday, helps me so much! You can find these for cheap at online drug stores it's basically like eating yogurt with all those good bacteria everyday but better and minus the calories.

Hope that helps!
