I'm new to this, so I'm sure my question is on here somewhere, but I can't find it! My doctor recommended metformin, but I consistently ovulate on my own around CD 21. Has anybody out there been in this situation, and did metformin help? (We are ttc.) I though metformin was for getting your body to ovulate...is there such a thing as "ovulating better"? Or does metformin help give you that "typical 28-day cycle"? Thanks for any advice; this is a great website!
Hi! I'm a newbie too and just started Metformin. The way my RE explained it I think it helps you ovulate sooner, but it alone may or may not help you get PG (she discussed adding Clomid if I didn't get PG with this first round of Metformin). I normally ovulate between CD20 and CD25.
I just started Met and I usually ovulate. I'm also not IR, but my doctor said she has had success with Met improving the hormone balance and helping to reduce the male hormone levels.
Thank you, guys! blue_eyes, how long have you been taking the metformin? Will you keep us updated?

runner22, I've only been taking Metformin since Tuesday of this week. I'll keep you updated.
All my other bloodwork came back normal and I'm not IR either.
So far I haven't really had any "bad" side effects from Met. The only thing different is that I have seemed a tad bit (not a lot though) more tired. The only question I have so far I've posted in the Metformin group here with the title "Does Metformin affect BBT temperature". I'd link to it but I can't since I'm still a newbie.
It's about whether or not Metformin affects your morning basal body temperature. Today is the second day that my temp has been higher...and it just happens to correspond with when I started taking Metformin.
blue_eyes--I'm interested to see if anybody has found that metformin makes their bbt higher. Were you able to figure out if you did in fact ovulate? What CD are you on now, and is it sooner than you would have expected to ovulate?

runner22, So far no one has responded here about whether Metformin increases BBT. On another website, the only response was that it most likely won't affect BBT. I had my 3rd high temp this morning (CD30), so I'm pretty sure that I ovulated on CD27. Plus, my CM confirms the same. And no, without the Metformin, this is no sooner that I really would have expected to ovulate. The earliest I have ovulated on my own (without meds) since I've been charting has been CD22, but on average I ovulate on CD25. I guess I will find out in about 14 days whether or not I really did ovulate. I plan to keep temping though, just to be sure my temp stays up.
