Metformin + Gonal F

Hello Everyone!

When I conceived my daughter via gonal-f and IUI I was not on Metformin. The two cycles were long and difficult and only produced one so-so sized follicle (which luckily was enough). This time I am on Metformin and have been for about a year. I was just wondering if it helps make the cycle more successful? Has anyone had experience with Met plus the injections?

Hi there,

I started Met about 7/06. I just finished my 1st IVF cycle. I initially didn't respond to the Met/Clomid combo, but whoa...did I ever with the IVF cycle!! My RE started me on 225 IUs of Gonal-F. About 5 days later, I started to hyperstimulate (not enough to stop the cycle). On my u/s, my ovaries were loaded with follicles. They were afraid of me completely hyperstimulating so they backed me down to 75 IUs for 3 days. At my retreival, they collected 35 eggs, 29 mature!

That was my experience (don't know if that's the norm). Good luck with your next cycle!!

I have been taking met since Oct '06 and I am in the middle of my first gonal-f/IUI cycle. I took 75 IUs day 3-6 and 112.5 days 7-current (day 8). I went in on cd 7 which was after the 4th shot of 75 and my left ovary had one follie at 9.8mm and 5-6 less than 5mm. Dr said things looked good. I go in on Thursday for another u/s. I will let you know how it goes. As of right now, things look good and that is with met and gonal-f. Good Luck!!

Linda- Woah!! I am doing IUI not IVF so I definitely don't want that many!! Good for you though!!

Mon- Wow, it sounds like we are in the same boat. I am on CD 8 right now. Go back for an US tomorrow. I think we may both be successful this round! I can't wait to hear about your U/S today!

HI! I am starting my frist round of Gonal F. I have been on Met for about a year now. Did several rounds of Clomid, and usually only got one good size follie a cycle. I did get pg once on the clomid and met, but they don't think that the egg was healthy (32mm). I am anxious to get this show on the road!

Went in today and the u/s was good. My one follie grew from 9 to 13 and then there are 2 more that are about 7 and 9. Dr seems to think that might turn into 2 or 3 good follies for ovulation. They upped my dose and I will take 150 today and tomorrow and then I go back in on saturday for another u/s. Hope is it good news.

Mon2007- Thanks for your help! I am sure I will have lots of questions once I get this show on the road. It looks as if I am going to start either tuesday or maybe wed. It all depends on when AF decideds to make her entrance!

So my ultrasound this morning showed 12 (yes, 12) follicles! They think only 2 or 3 will mature though. Phew! So, I am to do another 225 iu injection tonight and go back in the morning for another ultrasound and bloodwork. She said my estrogen was 185 (does anyone know what the numbers should be?) which is lower than the other day, but she said that happens sometimes with PCOS patients. Not sure what that all means. She said hopefully tomorrow night will be my trigger shot then IUI's Sunday and Monday. Doc is hoping for 1 or 2 really good size follicles.

I am getting excited and I know I shouldn't yet...but this is happening so quick compared to last time that it just seems things are going my way.

Sharon- How exciting!!!! What size were your follies at? I go in tomorrow morning for another u/s and I really think we will do our trigger tomorrow night (fingers crossed) and then IUI on sun/mon!!!! That means we would get to do the 2ww together!!!! I also know what you mean by trying not to get your hopes up, this is so much faster and I am so excited that we are getting a follie to grow. DH sa came back great and I really just don't know why it won't happen first time around!! Anyways- let me know how things go tomorrow.

Off the subject- is that a Bears jersey your daughter is wearing?? who by the way is precious.

Update from Saturday- I went back in today for an u/s and 1 follie is at 18!!!! So excited since I don't think I have every ovulated since we started trying. There are 2 more at 13 and 14. Dr called back and said my something was 400 and my lh was 1.4 So my body is not going to o on its own jus yet, he would like to see if he can get one of the other smaller ones to grow too so that way we have more than one egg that will release. I go back in tomorrow for another u/s and then trigger tomorrow night and IUI mon and tues. I am so excited, it is progress for sure.

Sunday update- my estrogen is at 497 and my lh is 4, Dr says I have 2 great follies, one at 20 and one at 17, I will trigger tonight and go in tomorrow morning for our first IUI and then tuesday for a 2nd one. I am so excited....a little nervous about the IUI but ya do what you have to do. Hope you are having a great day!!!!

Monica- Wow!! Great!! Don't worry about the IUI, it is not bad at all. Just like a pap smear.

Well, they ended up canceling my cycle. I was in for an ultrasound again today and I have 10 mature follicles, so they won't do the IUI. I am very disappointed. So, once AF arrives, as long as I don't have any cysts I can start again right away.

Hi guys!
I just got back from my RE's office and got my frist injection. It really isn't that bad after all...Phew! Actually I let DH do it and he did a great job. My DH really thinks that this is going to be our cycle. I really hope so! I go back in on friday for an u/s.

Texanna- so glad that the first shot is over, I found that one to be the hardest.

Well Ladies- I guess I am offically in my 2 week wait, did our 2nd IUI today and now just have to wait and see. I go back in on the 26th for a blood test. My uterus area just kind of aches right now and really hoping this is our turn. The past 14 months as been forever long and with the 4 rounds of clomid all a bust, even though I am so excited about having eggs and ovulating, step forward, really want it to be our bfp too. Well, sorry to ramble on. I just have to much time on my hands this week. It is spring break and our house is clean, finished that yesterday........and that was only Monday. Hope all is well with you all, keep me updated!!!!

Texanna- I hope this cycle goes well for you! You get used to the shots pretty quickly.

I will start a new cycle as soon as AF arrives, if it arrives!! I am disappointed, but anxious to get started again.
