I'm copying this post from "Hair Loss" section, since it was recommended to me for more responses.
Has anyone else noticed that after they started Metformin (immediately after starting) the amount of hair lost has increased dramatically? I've had hair loss for a while, but since starting Met it is SO much more. When I wash my hair, I get two handfuls of hair. Then when I comb it, I clean the comb two times free of hair. It was never this much before. I'm really hoping it slows down.
Note: Another poster told me that Metformin blocks B12 and that could be the cause of the hair loss. I take a daily prenatal vitamin that has 12mcg Vitamin B12 (150% daily value). I really don't want to stop taking Met. Any suggestions. Also, I'm only at 500mg Met daily, but need to build up to 1500mg/daily. I sure hope with the increased dosage, it does not increase the hair loss even more.

I have also had hair loss right after starting met, but it has slowed down some since then. I am also hoping that it doesn't start happening again. I am anxious to see if anyone else posts with some information. :>)

I had the clog the drian kind of hair loss in the past and while I still had some hair loss before starting met, it went right back to mega loss when I started met. Now because I have been off of the met for about 5 days after taking it for only two weeks, my hair loss has gone back to the pre met stage. Met made me feel too sick, hopefully there is an alternative out there somewhere.
I've been on Met for about a year or so. And within that year I'm able to see my scalp. Never thought it could have been from the Met. But now that I think of it, I've lost a whole lot this past year. Since Met does deplete the B vitamins, and I'm not good at remembering to take my B-complex, I think that could be it.
I go to the doctor next month. I have no more refils left of my Metformin. I wondering if I should take the natural route instea....

A sister recommended to me to take an Omega-3 supplement to help prevent/stop hair loss, so I have been taking that lately along with my multi-vitamin. Haven't noticed much happening but I haven't been really consistant in taking any of my meds here lately...BAD BAD BAD!
Good luck, hope you find something that helps you. Hair loss can be devasting.
