Default Metformin and Hair loss

Hi, I'm a newbie and my doc prescribed metformin. I've been having severe hair loss since I went off the pill and I'm worried that metformin will make it worse. Anyone have experience with metformin and hair loss? Does it help? Does it hurt? Thanks so much.

Thanks for the link. I looked through those forums and couldn't find much linking hair loss with metformin directly. Does that mean that metformin doesn't cause hair loss? Has anyone had experience with hair loss or improvement on met?

I'll give you my experience:
After going on Met, my hairloss symptoms improved tremendously within a week.

However, after getting better for a while, it suddenly got much worse. My doctor had no idea what was going on, but on this board I have read that Met can cause you to inhibit absorption of certain B vitamins.

I started taking GNC Hair, Skin & Nails vitamins which has large doses of Biotin and other vitamins and my hair is really great now.

So in answer to your questions, Met can help hairloss by normalizing testosterone but you need to be careful you're supplementing your vitamins to prevent that type of hairloss.

HTH!
