Default Metformin Hydrochloride (Neomet - XR)

Hello all
I have been MIA for a while due to shifting and all. Anyway, before moving my endo had my tests and everything and said that I was an IR so he put me on BCP (Yasmin) and Androcur (its an anti androgen) and said it was ok for me for the time being.
Just before the day I moved he wrote down a prescription and said me to start this med also in addition to what he prescribed earlier.
He prescribed me Neomet - XR aka Metformin Hydrochloride - 500 mg 2x daily.
I was going through its leaflet inside and it said that is it prescribed for people who have IR and that those who have diabeted I or II

Now I am confused as to what is difference between normal met and this met hydrochloride and that whether I should use it since I am not an IR. Also can this be used in combination with BCP and Androcur.

My endo is out of country and I cannot contact him for my queries and since I have moved out of the country it self it'll take me some time to find another doc/endo.

Thankyou for taking time to look into my post

Metformin Hydrochloride is Metformin. (As far as I understand). Hydrocholoride is used in loads of medicines and I think its to make them easier to absorb? I'm trying to think back to 7th form chemisty, but it feels like it was a long time ago!

Also while metformin is a drug for diabeties and IR, its well recognised as treatment for PCOS (IR or not), just not 'officially' which is why its not on your leaflet.

Thank you for pointing out that IR or not met could be used in both cases. I was just confused whether it can be used along with BCP or not. I would start my met with the next pack of BCP and would just hope things get better.

The Metformin is definitely safe to take with the BCP. There are many ladies that are on that combination (or others). They hydrochloride isn't really anything important, it's just one of the chemical elements that, along with the Metformin make the brand name medication Glucophage.

If you're ever in doubt, you can usually ask your pharmacist if there's any indication of two medications conflicting and not being safe to take together. They're usually really good resources ... if you can get one's attention. I know the ones at my pharmacies always seem so danged busy!

lol sorry I missed your question entirely! I blame it on feeling so blue yesterday after the All Blacks lost to france!
Just to add - I took Met and BCP for about 2 years and it was fine.
