Default Metformin for low blood sugar not pcos

I have been told I may have pcos and then now I have been told I dont have it. I dont have many symptoms. I do have low blood sugar symptoms. I have to eat protein with every meal and eat very often. My endo prescribed metformin becuase he says it helps when people have hypoglycemia becuase it controls the insulin. He said no one really knows how it helps low blood sugar but it does. He is also controlling my low thryoid well. I thought met was for pcos and higher blood sugar? I dont have irregular periods, I dont have infertility, or anything that looks like pcos now except chin hairs. I thought met caused low blood sugar? He also said it helps take off weight well. How does it do this?
