Metformin and low grade fever?

Ever since I've been upping my medication (now 2 pills in the morning and 2 at night) I have been getting a low-grade fever from 98.9-99.9 and get really hot in the face. Is this normal? My doctor swears it has nothing to do with the medication but it is freaking me out nonetheless.
