Metformin for 2 weeks now, 500 mg a day
I would talk to your Dr about his, as our kidneys are located in our lower backs, and this could be signalling some sort of issue there. I would err on the safe side and have a heart to heart with your physician.
Good luck!

I had this too with Gluc XR and had to stop it because the pain was soo bad.
My doctor did not know the cause, and neither did anyone here at soulcysters, but about 5-6 people have also experienced it(I posted a question about it last year).
I have looked on the internet but found nothing. Sorry I'm not much help except to say, it happened to me too.

Ok so a few others have suffered this back pain as well, What did you do? How long did it last? Did you find anything in particular seemed to help or did it just go away finally?
Christyz - I have already been to the dr. and they ruled out muscle pain and kidney infection as well as pregnancy. I have my doubts about it being a sign of AF for it's almost been two weeks since the pain started.

I had lower back pain, for 3 months, but I wasn't on any medication. I would sometimes get up at 3AM because it hurt so bad, and I couldn't lay comfortably anymore. I went to the chiropractor 3 times a week, bought a special pillow, put a ping pong table underf the matress, etc. But, nothing.
When I found out I had PCOS, I asked my chiropractor about it. He said the swelling of ovaries could be causing sublexation. I have been on BCPs for 2 months, and it is finally not hurting as much. I guess the swelling is going down some.

I have wondered about the possibility of this for I know the last 6 months or so, well basically since I went off the BCP, that I find anything tight around my waist bothers me more and more. I finally went out and splurgered on a lot of loose fitting pants to ease my discomfort, and now this pain that just wont go away!!!!

Hi,
I was told by my OB-GYN, that the lower back pain was caused by a fibroid in my ovary. He told me that my chiropractor would not be able to get rid of the pain back there. It has lessened since I have been taking metformin for the past year and a half. I think the fibroid has been shrinking.

I KNOW my back pain was caused by Glucophage XR because the pain would occur within about 10-30 minutes of taking the pill.
I stopped taking gluc xr and and the pain went away. I have never been a person to have back pain, so the connection was very obvious to me.
My pain had me in bed for two days (and this is not like me at all) and somewhat ambulatory for two weeks.
My Dr. also, and I should add unwillingly, tested me for UTI, kidney infection, pregnancy test. She swore I pulled a muscle and that was the LAST time I ever went there! Grrr! I don't like being dismissed!
But like I said in my last post, I have not found out why the gluc xr caused the back pain, I just know it was the source.
I am going to try plain old metformin tonight and see if I have the same reaction. I will keep you posted!

HI Ladies. I have been strangely experiencing lower back pain as well and it is not long after I take the pills I notice. worse in the morning as well. I am a haidresser so I had put it off to standing too long and in the wrong position until I saw this post. I am taking Metformin GenRX 1500mg per day. Something I will definately speak to my Gyn about!!! (Pity I didnt read this before yesterday when my last appointment was!) Hope you all are easing in the pain.
