My Mood: Points: 16,281.29 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 16,281.29 | Metformin makes me so TIRED! I just started Metformin last week.
Within about 10 minutes after taking it, I get extremely drowsy.
I take a vitamin B comlex as well as a multi-vitamin, and it does not really help. My question is, does it go away after awhile of taking it? How long does this side effect last? When does it fade? Also, did it cause any depression?
Any info would be much appreciated!
Thank you,
K

I know exactly how you feel! I started a week ago last Sunday (only 250mg to begin with). The first 5 days were a nightmare...I too was exhausted about 10 minutes after taking it and just had to go to bed. I also felt very depressed for a few days...it was terrible!
On day 6 & 7 I felt better and was no where near as tired and the depression had lifted some what. I upped my dose to 500mg lastnight...I was scared of being a mess today but l'm not to bad...
Hang in there...I think you will be fine in a few days as your body gets used to it.
How much are you taking? Are you also getting some muscle aches? |

Points: 7,597.18 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 7,597.18 | I'm going thru the same thing all over again, with a new/increased dosage of metformin. I went fro 1000mg's to 1500mgs. I'm tired, my tummy is all messed up and I have little to no appetite (i don't mind the appetite thing if it makes me drop pounds). It's been this way for more then 3 weeks. I've also been so crabby. My poor dh!! I hope this goes away soon.....

My Mood: Points: 16,281.29 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 16,281.29 | Thanks ladies for all your replies. I do not have time to visit the site too often, but will try more. I have gotten adjusted to my AM dose, the tiredness is no longer an issue. However, my PM dose was just introduced last week, so I am still dealing with that. I go to bed as soon as I put my daughter to bed!! However, I did start a good multi-vitamin, and a B-complex, and I think that helps. I am also so depressed! I was not sure if it was just me or the Metformin. I have started up my jogging/walking in the park everyday too, which helps. I just throw my daughter in the jogger stroller and off I go, and it does wonders. I really hope that this goes away within 2 weeks like y'all said it would, because I am NOT a drowsy person. I have never been a naptaker---it is freaking out my DH. He does not like me so tired like this. Please keep the replies coming---I would like to hear more stories about how y'all adjusted to Met once you first started taking it. I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that has had depression symptoms.
Thanks!!
~k

My Mood: Points: 16,281.29 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 16,281.29 | One more thing:
I am still supplementing with insulin everytime I eat. How long am I going to have to keep doing this? When will I be able to just EAT and not worry about giving insulin???? I AM OVER THIS INSULIN CRAP. I guess I could just ask my nurse practitioner, since she is the one that is working with me on this, but it is the weekend and I cannot reach her at the moment, so I can just ask you ladies. Does it take awhile for the Met to work for my individual body as far as food is concerned?

Not fun! I hope this goes away soon! Even thinking about some kinds of food was almost enough to make me sick.
