Question Metformin not helping with AF

I've been on Metformin for 8 months and I'm still not having regular periods. Anyone else had the same problem?

Hi Stacie,

I would maybe ask for your dose to be upped, they usually say the minimum effective dose is 1500mg, although i've been on 1500mgs since sept 04 and i've only just started having regular 28 day periods and only just started ovulating normally. Some women it just takes longer to sort things out. I began to think that it wasn't helping me after being on it six months because thats the time they usually say it takes but it turned out it just took longer.

Hope this helps a little.

Rach xx

Did you Dr do bloodwork when you started? If so, I'd see if he would be willing to repeat them to see where your hormones are at. He'll be able to tell if your dose is high enough if things are at least normalizing.

Odds are good though that if you haven't menstruated in that long, the dose is likely not high enough for you. Some of us have hormones that need to be hijacked with force.

Good luck!
