Default Metformin only for PCOS w/Insulin Resistance

Hello everyone! I was just recently diagnosed with PCOS and put on birth control and then clomid, my testo when I went off to go on clomid leaped up to double what it was and I gained all the weight back I lost (about 25 pounds). I am about to go back on birth control and I was wanting to talk to my doctor about going on metformin because I have heard that it allows you to lose pounds steadily and lowers testo. Is it only for insulin resistance as I had a fasting test and was told that my levels are normal. Does that mean no Insulin Resistance? I am confused! Would you suggest it or not? Thanks for all of your help.

I have heard some women say that they use the met even without the ir and it was helpful to them.

Cymeron,
When I saw my GYN in January, he told me that Metformin is used to treat PCOS and it has shown to be a more successful treatment(with or without IR). I am 37 and was diagnosed at 22. Before I was 30 I had had probably 5 laps with ovarian drilling. He said that they typically do not do that surgery for PCOS anymore that they use Metformin now. I gained more weight last year on regular Met and quit taking it after several months. I am now on the extended release since 12/26. I didn't lose anything! However, I started going to the gym 3 days a week and have lot nearly 10 lbs. in 2 weeks.
