Default Metformin and Pregnancy

I started Metformin last week and am wondering about the probability of ovulating. While waiting for my medication to arrive by mail order I started my period and had a full 7 day cycle. My DH and I have been trying to concieve for about 7 months and are praying this medication will work.

My question is, how do you know your ovulating after starting the medication. Did you use ovulation kits to see if you were ovulating?

Best wishes to everyone, I just joined the boards and love them!! Jen in KS. Hope to meet some "cysters" soon!

I am not 100% sure that I am ovulating with Met, but I do have a strong suspicion that I am. After my cycles regulated (solely b/c of Met) I started experiencing little twinges around my ovaries (well, my Left one, mainly) and my doc said that since my cycles are pretty regular now, that it's probably me trying to O, or actually O'ing

That's wonderful, I hope that I can start O'ing again as well. How long have you been taking the medication? Have you had constant contact with your doctor. I am worried that after I get my hormone levels checked next month nothing else will happen. Have you tried Clomid before? Are you actively trying to concieve. Sorry for so many questions, just trying to learn. By the way, I am Jennifer and live in KS. Thanks for responding and nice to meet you.

I've been on Met since early July 2005. Started on 500, then 1000, then worked up to 1500 around late August I guess. Had TERRIBLE nausea and vomiting, but it was well worth it once I acclimated. My cycles regulated in Aug/Sept and in I guess November I started with the ovarian twinges. I do not have constant contact with my doc. He did all the necessary tests and dx me as PCOS in June/July and was put on Met. He then told me to follow up in December, which I did. He didn't do any more tests and told me that since my cycles were regulated it was a VERY good sign! Also asked about the "twinges" and he told me that it was most likely my ovaries trying to ovulate (or possibly actually O'ing!).

I have never tried Clomid. Met has been my one and only med. He offered me Clomid if I get "impatient" but I'm trying to avoid that. So we'll see what happens! I have a follow up in May or June.

I'm a thin cyster without a lot of the "classic" PCOS symptoms, but I have always been annovulatory and my cycles have always been super erratic. Met has really helped me a lot. A LOT!

1 way you can tell if you "o'ed" is to start temping...I was once a critic, but I've been temping for 4 months now and it has taken all the "o" ?? away!!

With me, I was on Met for 3 cycles, worked my dosage to 2000 mg per day. I got pregnant on the third cycle. I kept an eye out for Oing by temping and charting. I used www.fertilityfriend.com I also at times used a saliva fertility tester. I have heard of some cysters using OPKs, but have also heard that some cysters get false + on them sometimes.

Hey Jen-
I started met a month ago. I was on 1500mg but cut back to 1000mg with Dr approval b/c of the awful nausea. The day I cut the dose I noticed sore bb and lower back pain. A week later, I got AF! Exciting. Dr's nurse told me to use opk starting at day 10 to determine whether or not I am Oing. I am always calling my Dr's nurse and she is so helpful. Anytime you have questions, don't hesitate to call them, that is what they are there for. I don't want to get your hopes up b/c everyone is diff, but many women are able to conceive on met alone. My nurse is always saying how successful met can be. I hope it is for you. Good luck!

Thanks for all of your responses. I am charting now, but not taking my temp. I will start doing that next month, hopefully AF will come as usual. Thanks everyone!
