Question Metformin question

How long do you have to stay on Metformin for? Once you get regular cycles can you go off of it and stay off of it? Thanks!

This was the question that we asked the doctor when we met him last. And his reply was that it doesn't stop. Metformin apparently helps to control the sugar and thereby the hormone levels and other things.. now, we believe, this is specific to me alone, since PCOS for me is because of the increased insulin levels.

He also said if I happen to become pregnant, the metformin stops after the first trimester.

Hope that helps answer a bit of your question!

Thanks!

My doctor wants me to go on it either way. I am taking a glucose test on Monday, so I can find out if my insulin levels are off as well. I wanted to know what to expect if my insulin levels were low. So thanks, thats very helpful!

I've been on and off but always quit at some point or another because of side effects - mainly headaches (that are very NON existent off Met but very life-stopping on Met). I've been under the impression that if it works (never has brought AF on for me, does some work on lowering testosterone levels though), then I stay on it - just a matter of time and finding the correct dosage. Also heard like above that after 1st trimester, end it...
