Question Metformin rashes!

Hi,

I am dealing with PCOS for the past 14 years. I have always had irregular periods. I was taking metformin (500 mg twice a day) combined with spironolactone for the past two years. It worked really well for me. It regulated my periods and I also lost weight.
Just when I thought I have found the cure for my problems, I started developing itchy rashes some six months back. I stopped taking Spirinolactone after my marriage as per the doc's suggestion. My dermatologist did all the blood work and couldnt find anything wrong. I was finally told that Metformin could be inciting the rashes. And I was scared to stop metformin because I had decided to concieve. I didnt get my periods for the past 3 months and the home pregnancy tests were all negative. And I also started gaining weight despite being on Metformin.
Now my Gyn asked me to stop metformin for a month to see if my rashes go away! It has been one week since I stopped metformin. I am wondering why would I react to a medicine after I have been taking it for two years. Also is there any hope for me to concieve if at all I prove allergic to metformin? And is there any negative effects if we stop metformin after taking it for a long time? I am becoming anorexic cos I am scared that I am going to blow up...this depresses me a lot...
Also I am currently taking provera to get my periods..
