Talking Metformin really works!

I was diagnosed with PCOS on 11/14/08. I was prescribed Metformin, but didn't start taking it until 12/1/08, after 5 months of not having a period. I finally got my period on 1/13! I had had some cramps but wouldn't let myself get my hopes up. When it finally came I was the happiest girl in the world. I've never in my life been so happy to have my period. Leelee 1, PCOS 0....

Congratulations on having your period!!!

I was diagnosed with pcos around a month ago, i already know i had it but was too scared to go to the doctors for years.. but after fighting i had enough and decided it was time to get professional help..

I am now on my 3rd day of met. I havent had a period for around 2 years now.. so im hoping met can help me too!!

That's wonderful that you've takent the steps to get better. Met can be difficult at first but don't give up! I got over the sideeffects in about 2 weeks. I found as long as I ate something substantial enough i felt ok. Good luck! I hope it works as quickly for you as it did for me!

Thankyou hun!!! i have yet to have had any effects on it but i am only on 500mg for my first week so that is most likely why, I go up to 1000mg on saturday and then stay on that for 2 weeks and go back to the doctors so she can see how i am going with it.

What dose are you on?

I am currently on 1000 mg of Met and I hope it helps me lose some of this belly fat. I went off of it in may and gained about 30 pounds. Good Luck to all of you.

It really does work. This is my 3rd round on Met and this time I'm really allowing it to work and not let the SE's get me down. I started on 750 mg. for a little more than a week. I started 1500 mg 2 days ago and so far so good. I'm down 7 lbs in 2 weeks. I just feel over all better. Hope everyone else has the same positive results.

I never went without periods, but I would have long lengths of bleeding. I was put on met almost two months ago and my period ended in seven days. I was so excited! I have not cramped since high school. I had the worse cramps and thought I was having a miscarriage.

Wonderful news...i myself have benefited from metformin...was diagnosed wit pcos in july put on met and bcp i stayed on bcp for 4 months and decided to stop takin them so i can see if the metfromin would work by itself and to my suprise since November i have gotten AF on the 13th of each month...im excited the only thing im worried about is if the cycles are ovulatory...

I was wondering about the same thing. I honestly never knew that having a period does not definitely mean you are also ovulating. Have you ever tried the home kit? I was thinking of trying it to keep track.
