Exclamation Metformin side effect or pg??

Hi,

I'm new to the message board, and I tried to search for the answer to this question but I didn't find anything. I apologize if it's already been asked. I've been taking Metformin for a little over 1 month (1000mg). Dh and I are ttc, and I was told by my midwife that the best case scenario would be that I would take met. for 1 month, have af and get pg. I haven't had af yet, but the last couple of days I've been having really bad nausea!! This wasn't an issue since when I started the pills, but was one of my symptoms before I was diagnosed with PCOS (once I stopped BC pills). My question is: even though I haven't had af yet, could I be pg?? I have thought about buying a test, but I have taken SEVERAL pg tests before I was diagnosed and I would rather not get my hopes up again!!

Thank you in advance for any advice,
Angie

Angie,

Hey that is so weird. I have to been on Metformin for about 3 weeks now and I just decided to take a test just for the heck of it. I took a serum test cause I work in a lab and I know the results are little more dependable and it turns out the test came back positive. I was so excited but like you also I didn't want to get my hopes up. I keep thinking that maybe its a false positive. I havent had a period yet and the last one I did have was in Dec with provera. Im just crossing my fingers and praying that this is true. I thought it took longer for the metformin to get into your system and work, but I read on another post that a lady had been on in only and month and concieved so it is possible. I think you ought to test, it won't hurt. Good luck!!

Jenny

angelvoice,

congrats. that's so awesome. false positives are really rare so most likely you're pregnant. i have a question. what dosage were you taking? i've been on 1000mg a day for 2 weeks and have been hoping that this might work for me too. it would be so awesome if i didn't even have to do the clomid thing next month. today is cd30 and no af yet but i tested this morning and got a bfn. what cd did you test?
thanks and hope you have a happy and healthy nine months!

angie, i've been getting some nausea too. so that's why i've been hoping i might be pregnant. also i've noticed that my areola are a little darker. still i bet i'm reading into it way too mcuh. we'll see ....

I am on a high dosage of Metformin and really no bad side affects. I take that and my prenatal vits with a bit of food. It has helped me to loose weight and control my insulin resistance. Give it time to work. I know some people do really well on it and concieve quickly. But others like me take a bit longer. But it will happen
