Metformin side effects

Hi,
I am newly dx with PCOS and am wondering about meformin side effects especially any GI discomfort? Is there certain foods you can eat that lessens the GI side effects, I only have mild discomfort, but I am fearful of it worsening and for how long do the side effects last.

Hi Karen,

I've only been diagnosed for about a month and have been on the metformin. I'm on a 1000mg right now and have had the side affects you are talking about. The best thing I have found is tea. I drink a couple of glasses of either peppermint or vanilla hot tea a day and it helps a lot. I also discovered that I have to stay away from anything high in fat or sugar other wise my tummy gets very upset.

I hope that helps. My side affects have not really decreased just yet, but from what I read, after a while if you watch your diet they pretty much go away.

Well I just upped to a 1000mg a day and have no side effects as such yet... well nothing that is worrying me! I do hear diet is the key with this though!
