well, now I know I am not the only one. I have been back on metformin for a month now, i am tired non stop, most days i don't want to get out of the bed at all. All I want to do is just sit around. And i took it before and as far as I can remember I felt the same.(tired and crapy)
Well I hope you fell better soon

I think it's the met. When I use the glucophage, I don't experience it..but the met sure makes me feel sick...maybe it's the fillers.

I had problems for my first month but not anymore, thank goodness! I had naseau, fatigue, dry mouth, and blood sugar issues. A lot of gals take vitamin B for the fatigue and say it helps.

Count me in! whenever I increase my dosage (I'm up to 1500mg right now and need to get up to 2000) or if I skip a few days and restart, I am SO nauseaus for 3-4 days afterward. I feel terrible!

The fatigue is what got me last time I was on Met. I had been at 2000mg for at least 6 months, had regular cycles but coudn't take the fatigue. And I also find the side effects far less on Glucophage vs Met but my insurance will no longer pay for the glucophage. Go figure.

I started met the beginning of Sept...Started Apri BCP about 6 days ago....
I have constant nausea & now constipation....Could it be Met or is it probably the BCP?
All I know is...I'm over it!!! I kept waking up last night with bad cramps in the ovary area...MY AF started last Monday...I've been thinking since about Thursday that it's about to stop...it'll slow way down, then it's back again...
This is my 1st AF since May & it was brought on my Provera....so I have no idea what "normal" should even be now that I've been taking the meds...

Hi:

I was on Met for two years before I got pregnant (2000mg/day). At week 14 of my pregnancy, they took me off.

The first 6 mos on Met, I felt awful- nauseau, diarreah (bad) and exhaustion. After 6 mos, my body was totally used to it. The last year-and-a-half, I had no side effects at all.

Anyway, I developed gestational diabetes and it hasn't gone away yet and my babies are 3 mos old, so they have put me back on Met now for diabetes and *wham*, I have all of those awful symptoms again. I've been told they'll go away again as my body adjusts.

So, I hope it is no more than 6 mos like the first time I was on it.

Your symptoms are normal, though. It can be rough while adjusting to it.

Good luck!!!!!!!

Oh me too! I am so fatigued...I feel crappy and depressed and unmotivated. This didn't happen last time I was on it. This time I'm afraid to move past 1000 mg cuz I don't know if I can handle it. I can't take much more. When will it stop?

Also, when do y'all take your vitamins? Met is supposed to be taken w/ meals, but so are vitamins. Is it OK to take vitamins and Met together? I've heard Met can block absorption, but I'm wondering if it matters whether or not you take them together.

I just wanted to say that yes, it will get easier with time.

I have been on met for exactly two months now, and the first month and a half was not fun. I didn't have horrible side effects, though I had loose BM's, and a little nausea, but my biggest complaint was being TIRED and DEPRESSED all the time! I would come home from work and go to bed at 6:30 p.m. and still not want to get up in the morning!

Well - come to find out that Metformin can cause us to have a vitamin B-12 deficiency. (B-12 gives us energy!) Well - about a week ago I bought a bottle of Super B Complex vitamins and have been taking them at the same time daily.

I have noticed a HUGE difference! I no longer feel tired all day, I go to bed at a more 'normal' time (usually 9-10 p.m.) and I have no problem getting up in the a.m. I also feel more motivated during the work day. I no longer feel like I'm dragging.

Of course - everyone is different - but I noticed immediatley that just by adding a vitamin, I've improved greatly!

Does it matter what time a day you take the vitamin? I also have a B-complex vitamin, but I'm still tired.

I am just contemplatingnall the side effects of it as it made me feel so crappy that i stopped taking it. My dr prescribed me up to 1500mg which did nothing for me but he wasn't monitoring me so i stopped but i really need to get back on it.

It is nice to know it wasn't just me who feels tired, depressed and generally naff while taking it.

violamarie - I'm not sure if it matters what time of day that you take the vitamin. However I do know that you should eat before taking it to avoid getting an upset stomach.

I take my vitamin every morning at 9:00 a.m. along with my Metformin. I've read that Met blocks the absorption of the B vitamin - but I don't seem to have a problem, and I feel SO much better!

Smile Metformin Side Effects

Hello,

I am new here.

But I am also on metformin for the second time in my life. The first time I took it as part of the regimine to get pregnant. I started the second round about a month ago. Just keep taking it. The side effects fade...at least they do for me. I was nauseated for the first two weeks. I find that my cravings for sugar get less the longer I take it. I suppose it could all be in my mind but I swaer by the benefits of met.
