Anyone else feel extremely tired ALL the time? This is my fourth week on Met and I'm on my highest dose (1500mg). I had very little side effects up until this week. I'm very nauseated (which I know is normal) all the time and am soooooooo tired. I usually have a lot of energy, so I'm not used to being constantly fatigued. Is fatigue normal? Anyone have any suggestions about how to combat this s/e?
Hmm.... I've never heard of a direct side effect being sleepy.
However, I do know that Met can deplete your B vitamins, and from what my B vitamin bottle says, they're necessary for energy. Maybe pick up some B complex vitamins and see if it helps?

So far, after 2 weeks, I actually have more energy... I will have to see how things go over the next few weeks. My Dr said the energy is coming from my body actually being able to use the food I eat for energy since it could not before when my insulin was not working right.
I was extremely tired for the 1st two weeks I was on Met. There were several nights where I was so tired that I actually felt like I had taken nighttime medicine. I have never really had any digestive issues and haven't had the fatigue problem in a couple of weeks. Maybe once your body gets used to the Met, the fatigue will wear off. Good luck!
I was seriously fatigued the whole time I was on met, especially during the first two weeks. The energy started to pick up until I started on diane and every morning I was vomiting. That combined with met causing appetitie loss and weigh loss (I am slim to start with). Fatigue was a main reason that prompted me to see a doctor in the first place leading to a pcos diagnoses. The met seemed to make things worse. I am taking vit B and the energy levels are going up. I think everyone should know about the importance of taking vit b, esp with meds like metformin.
Someone on this board mentioned the B vitamin thing to me, too. I started taking an extra B12 and it seemed to help. Of course, the constant GI issues can make you tired, too. I hope you'll see the side-effects improve soon. They do seem to get better for most of us.

I have been on met since 11/1/06 and increased my dose to 1500. I have been at this dose since 11/15. The past few weeks I have not felt like myself. I have been sensitive/slightly weepy and exhausted! I thought I was the only one since these are not listed side effects. My DH suggested that this may be affecting my hormones...I hope so since this our goal (ttc #1). I would love a Christmas miracle. In the meantime, its really no fun to be so sleepy all the time. I will try the b vitamin too - keep me updated on your progress....
I can totally relate to the tiredness! I've been on the 1,000 dose of met and it's like all I do is yawn and sleep, which isnt good with a 7 month old wanting attention and trying to get into everything. I'm going to try the B12 thing also, that and lots of tea! I think everyone on Met should automatically be allowed by law to nap whenever needed!!!!
I was extremely sleepy/exhausted for the first 2-3 weeks.

I've been wiped out ever since going on met. I take an incredible daily multi-vitamin/mineral (lots of B vit.), and I can REALLY tell a difference if I don't take it. I make sure to take it first thing, now because I'm completely incapable of functioning without it. I've been supplementing B vitamins with a vengeance, and it helps some, but not enough.
(POSSIBLE TMI) I don't know if this is related or not, but with the supplements I take daily, my urine has been psycho-technicolor, until I started taking met. It's still slightly darker, but not the pretty colors it was... I'm wondering if more of the supplements are being absorbed now, and therefore not being washed out. Anyone have any insight on this?

Don't know, but the vitamin and mineral I used to take turned my urine think funky neon green, too. I always wondered what the lab though I was taking.

Yep, normal. Between the lowering of blood sugar and the possible blocking of B12, it can make us feel tired. Get a good supplement with B12 and calcium..those two together help a lot. Also, make sure you eat small meals every few hours to keep your sugars stable.
Good luck!

I'm so glad to hear that a lot of you have had similar side effects! Ironically, the day after I posted, I felt normal again! My nurse told me to take Met. right BEFORE eating anything, which I was doing. I read that a lot of people were taking it in the middle of their meal, which is what I started doing and now I'm back to normal! However, I am taking my temps every morning and they still fluctuate quite a bit. But I'm so glad that I feel normal again.
I take 1500mg of Met/day and I've been on it since August 06. I'm always tired no matter how much sleep I get. I can sleep 10-12 hrs and still feel exhausted? Maybe it's from getting too much sleep? Nope, it's not...I'll sleep 8 hours and feel exhausted. I think it's the met.
I hope it gets better for everyone. Maybe I need to take a Vit. B suppliment too. Who knows. Going to the doctor tomorrow, so maybe I'll mention it.
