Default Metformin and Splenda??

Has anyone tried Splenda instead of sugar with Met? Does it have the same...uh...result??? I have had to learn the hard way a couple times that even a SMALL piece of cake is NOT a good thing to do on Met... Is there anything else that can be used that doesn't interact/upset your stomach/body/etc while on Met??

Thanks!

I haven't had any side effects from sugar but I've decided to switch to xylitol. I think it's probably safer than artificial sweeteners, it's safe for diabetics and it tastes just like sugar.

raskle - I use Splenda while on 1000mg of Met and I would not say that Splenda causes any GI issues (at least in me)... HTH! Dianna

Hi Why not try stevia, an herb thats 300 times sweeter than sugar. Plus it's diabetic friendly. Or raw agave nector, low on the glycemic index, and taste great. Artifical anything can't be good for you. Mother earth provides us with all we need.
Good luck

Like the suggestion above, I use Stevia-- it's natural and it's diabetic friendly (I don't have diabetes but I am IR).

Hello All,

I have used SPLENDA and in fact use it all the time. I'm on 1500 mg MET a day, and if you feel like it gives you non-desireable effects you could split the pills or start the MET XR tables which are extended release tablets.

I also recommend trying to IR diet (by the way there is a IR diet thread on this site), and it'll help keep your sugars more balanced and may even help you lose weight.
