Default Metformin subsidised in Australia?

Hi everyone,
I am moving from New Zealand to Australia soon. I get metformin prescribed from my doctor here for next to no money at all. I was just wondering if anyone knows if metformin is subsidised in Australia and since i'm a kiwi girl will it cost me more? Or about the same? Thanks!

I'm assuming you would be covered under Medicare? If so Metformin costs $17.30 for 100 (500mg) tablets. Hope that helps

Medicare's website is www.medicare.gov.au

Thanks for your help

I'm not actually too sure if, because I am a New Zealander, that I am eligable to be covered by medicare immediately. I have been told that i'm not but don't know for sure. Do you know? And if I can be covered by medicare, how do I go about setting that up? Thanks!

I just did a google search and it looks like Citizens of New Zealand are eligible for Medicare. You just need to enrol at a medicare office when you get here. This is the form : http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/...-australia.pdf
That form lists all the things you will need to enrol.
Where are you moving to?

I am moving to Melbourne on the 1st November. It is going to be the most scarey thing I have ever done as I have never been there before and am going there alone and I don't know a soul there! I have found an apartment and i'll hunt for a job when I get there. I've been a bit freaked out that my health might slip up being in a different country and out of routine etc.

I lived in melbourne a few years back, it's a great place to live. You shouldn't have trouble finding a job. I have a younger sister (21) who lives near St Kilda if you are interested in meeting someone.
