Default Metformin Success Stories

Hi Everyone!
A few Cysters have decided that in addition to the thread on "Dealing With Met Side Effects" we need one for Met Success Stories.

When I first was prescribed Met and came to this board, the s/e thread scared me to death! (lots of good info in there though....) So, lets try and create a thread to describe our successes, so other Cysters can feel hopeful about Met!

If we can get a good amount of us to post our stories, we can ask to have it made a sticky.

Are you with me??

Talking something positive

Here's something positive from my 4 mnth experience. It helped alot with the hirstutism. So much so I got good comments about it. Since I've stopped the excess hair has come back. It actually improved my digestion. Start with a low dose and always take it in the middle of a meal. Any stomach upset went away. Be patient. Gets rid of pms symptoms. Horrible cramps went away. Got rid of excess weight I tend to put on in the midriff and thighs. Just keep eating right cause it lowers your apetite which is great but if you are slim you might lose too much weight. My figure looked great on met. I have posted alot about my bad experience but ofcourse their are many benifits. Everyone is different and reacts differently to meds.

After ttc for 3 1/2 years I finally conceived on my 2nd full cycle of Metformin. We were planning on moving to IVF in the spring, but now we won't have to.

It was slow going, but if you read my siggy, met combined with diet and exericise has been my PCOS-butt-kickin' miracle. It took a long time (3byears to normalize everything from the time Istarted taking it) and I had to really commit to the diet and exercise aspects, but it has been a huge advantage.

I'm so glad ya'll started this thread. I just started met and it should be interesting to read the sucess stories of those of you who have good experiences with it. I have just been in a really negative mood today and I know there are others out there that have these negative days as well and it really really helps to read how met affects people positively instead of in a negative way. I am still waiting on my positives to show up in using met, but I have noticed my appetite going down in the short one month time that I have been taking it. I hope to be able to post a complete sucess story in the future though.

I have only been taking met for about 6 weeks but so far so good. I have lost 21 pounds in the last 2 months and I keep losing. I have had NO side effects with the met, which is amazing. I have not had a cycle yet but I am sure it is to come. I can't say anything bad about taking it yet and hopefully it will stay this way. I take 1500 mg per pay all in the morning before I eat. I wait for 1 hour before eating just to make sure.

Here is my story with met.

Before met my hair was thin, I didn't ovulate and when I did with clomid I misscarried each time.

I was put on met for my type II diabetes and my hair started getting thicker. After only two weeks of side affects my body adjusted just fine to the medication.

I got pregnant without fertility meds twice and stayed on the met throughout. We successfully carried to term two healthy daughters which I credit directly to the met since my previous misscarriages were unexplained and the only difference was I stayed on the met.

Personally, I think met is well worth taking.

Met has been so good for me mood swing wise. I used to just throw things across the room when I would get mad.I think, well I know it has helped.I have more patients now.I am really different.I can't get over how quick I would get mad at things or someone and now I get feelings like,"I don't want to get mad at that." So I guess mentally it has helped me. Physically,I am better as far as my sex-life goes.I used to suffer from real bad vaginal dryness. Sex used to hurt or burn rather after DH would finish but it has gotten better. There are not many other physical characteristics that have changed for me. I still wonder where AF is and I still have to pluck, tweese, and wax.Weight has never been an issue for me....however, I am not too thin or to heavy. I still love Met enough to keep taking it b/c I don't want to be the person I used to be.

Default Success w/ Metformin

I've been taking Metformin (1500 / day) since the middle of Oct and started on the SB diet at the beginning of Nov.

I've already lost 12 pounds and can't believe how loose some of my clothes are right now. I'm not having the swelling as much in my ankles and feet and my moods seem to have evened out for me as well except when I watch shows like A Baby Story - hehe

A huge success story from a friend of mine - She's been trying to conceive for awhile and after having her Met upped to 2000 / day (for about 6 months) and dropping just over 50 pounds, she was finally able to conceive.

I'm really hoping for some great results like this in the new yr

I started on Metformin today and like so many othercysters on this site was a little hesitant about it. My boyfriend and I have been talking about getting married next year and I don't want to be a fat bride LOL! I hope I have as much success with Met as some of you did. And thank-you all for posting about your experiences, it's nice to know I'm not alone

After TTC for 6 months, I started Met. Two cycles later (a 50 and 40 day cycle...), I got pregnant! I was on 1250mg of Met. I started off with some blood sugar issues and loss of appetite, but eventually all the s/e subsided and I even lost 15-20lbs in those 3 months before BFP. The Met also helped with acne and hair growth.
I call that a success!!!! Best of luck to the rest of you!!!!!

i've been on Met since March and have now lost 26lbs w/out no change in diet/exercise. I can tell that i'm less hungry and feel full for a long period of time. I just can't believe that I actually lost 26lbs and have yet to gain any back...its just been going down..slowly but at lease it is!!! Before starting met, I was in a size 18. Now i'm a size 16. Love it! I'm hoping my weight continues to decline!!

Started Met (1000 a day, meant to be 1500 but I never got up to three pills a day) end of August last year, got a few days of sore tummy and the usual upsets but after that no other side effects (aside from not being able to drink... oo did I learn that the hard way.. hahah)

Within a few months my cycle had regulated, I started getting af every 28 days and they didn't HURT! I was amazed, next to no pain and no flooding as long as I remembered to take the pills every day (i'm lazy and forgettful so I tend to forget to take em.. bah)
Within 6 months I was pregnant, quite a surprise but a wonderful blessing as my gyno had expressed serious doubts i'd be able to concieve without help.
I've always been slim, but my weight used to fluctuate by several kilos. On met it stabalised at 52, staying steadily at the same weight since (aside from pregnancy weight gain of course)

I've just started on the met again after giving birth three weeks ago, on day two of the medication and so far i'm feeling ok. A few stomach cramps but nothing major. So i'll keep everyone posted about what happens.
