I just wanted to post about how awesome this thread is! I'm so excited, I just read through the entire thing and it was so reassuring and heartening. I go to my Doctor tomorrow and I'm asking to be put on Met!

metformin made me sick at my stomach but the extended release wasn't so bad. I don't take it now because I'm trying something else. But I did get pregnant within a month of starting it lol. After being told by multiple dr's i'd have areal hard time getting pregnant and carrying to term. I did it!

My personal opinion.... yes. My reason is that I believe (and I'm no expert) that it takes a certain threshold for it to work for your body. I was ovulating without it, but with ALL THREE of my pregnancies it took me almost EXACTLY the same amount of time on Met to get pregnant (if you look whatever month I start met is the month I give birth the following year) making me think that there is a certain quality to the ovualtion that you need to achieve. Its just my opinion though.

Trish - Thank you for replying and thanks a million for being so honest. I am going by your opinion and that of seeing some many ladies getting bfp with 1500mg met... I am on 1250mg the last two days. I am sticking this out for a week and then uping to 1500mg. I am determined to stay there then. Thanks for being great help! AND MANY congrats on your family xxxx

Default Metformin working well!!! Amazing!

I've been on it more than a month--perhaps a month and a half and I've lost 20 pounds!!!!!

My period was induced with provera but then on day 28 of my cycle, it came on time and on its own!!!

Metformin is truly a wonderful drug and stick to the diet and exercise and it will WORK!

Can anyone tell me their experience with more weight loss and then that got pregnant? audreyport2001@yahoo.com

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. I was diagnosed with PCOS about a year ago after being misdiagnosed for about 7 years. My OB would not listen to what I was telling him. I found a new OB who diagnosed me with PCOS after a set of blood tests and ultrasounds. After many months of clomid and IUI's, he has decided to start me on met. I am starting it tomorrow. After reading all of these posts I am feeling very positive that I will achieve pregnancy! I have been on a roller coaster of emotions lately and I am ready to be positive and get this done. So I will continue to read the encouraging posts and post my journey.

Hey! I have been on Met for about 10 days now. I have already lost 5 lbs. The side effects are not fun though. I have been feeling sick to my stomach and having really bad headaches but nothing I cant handle. My last AF was May 1st, she came on her own for the first time in 3 months and on May 31st I sarted spotting and only had bleeding for one day, so I dont know if that was AF or something else. But I am hopefull that the Met will work for me. Me and my husband are really hoping for a baby soon!

No need to increase to 1500.

Girls I just got my BFP today... So happy... cant believe it 8 tests later I am now convinced. We had taken a "break" for two cycles and hey preto its true!

I will stay on 1000mg till 12 weeks.. I just hope my Doc agrees

Hi all,

I'm pretty new - I've been reading through for a while. I'm seeing an endocrinologist who is putting me through A LOT of tests - he says to ensure I don't have a thyroid issue of some kind on top of PCOS. I am going in for fasting glucose/diabetes 'test' on Monday. He said if it showed IR (which he's pretty sure it will) that he will prescribe Met. After hearing all of your stories, I can't wait. I have always been a little heavy but have gained about 25lbs in the last year and do not feel good in general. I exercise 2-3 times a week and follow a reasonable diet and just keep gaining... I am in some fear that I have dubbed Met my 'cure-all' and will be disappointed. I'm just ready to feel better. I'm not currently trying to get pregnant but hope it will be a possibility in the future...
