I posted on the side effects but now I'd thought I post here too. I haven't been on met for that long.. I was diagnosed less than a month ago and this is the first medication my obgyn put me on... so far I haven't seen any changes in anything but hopefully, by the time I go back I will have a success story. Thanks so much for all your comments.

I have been on Met for just shy of a mth now and I started at 500mg, I am now up to 2000mg and I have lost 10 lbs with not much change in eating and little exercise. I finally got AF on schedule this mth. I hope to do more exercising and try to eat better and see if I can get more results with weight loss. I have noticed that if I eat bad foods(high carbs) I end up in the bthrm with D. I have a high level of testosterone and am IR. My facial hair has gotten slightly better, does not grow as fast back, I was removing daily, now I can go every other day. But still hoping that gets better.

It took me five years to actually dedicate myself to Metformin, I would start then stop after the side effects. The doctors always said that they would go away but in the back of my head I was thinking well you dont have COS so how do you know?
This site has been such a God sent. I started Metformin three weeks ago, and despite the occasional side effect everything else is great with it

Has anyone been prescribed Fortamet versus Metformin for ovulation?Fortamet is an extended release version of Metformin, and suppose to have the same effectiveness as Metformin, but I just want an opinion from some soulcysters who are in my shoes, and not just the doc who's on the outside looking. Thanks in advance!

Just now starting to TTC~Wish me luck

Thanks so much for all the inspiring stories. I just started on met on Tuesday and my side effects are unpleasant but it would seem that they are well worth the struggle. Hopefully I can post one of these someday.

Talking

I had my first labwork in June O5 and my free testerone was 9.6 and my triglycerides were in the upper 200s. I lost about 30 lbs with various forms of diet and exercise but my triglycerides never dropped.

I started Metformin in Jan and stopped BCP for ttc. I ovulated my first month and had 30ish day cycles from the start! I had the normal side effects, but about 3 weeks after starting Met I woke up and felt like a normal person. I hadn't realized how bad I had been feeling!!

I didn't lose anymore lbs, but lost inches at my waist. July 2nd I saw an endo and did more labwork and it looks like I have LOCAH. But here is the good news...my free testerone is down to 1.5!!! My triglyceride dropped to 178! Then on 7/13 I got my BFP and I am due at the end of March!! No fertility meds, just Metformin, low gi diet and exercise!!!!

I am so glad to hear you are just taking metformin and it is working for you. I have been looking for recipes and trying to find out what foods i can and can't eat. I have learned a little on my own just because I get sick after eating certain things. I see you are on a low gi diet... If you dont mind I would love to know where to get some resources from and if there are any recipe sites you know of that have helped you I would be very appreciative. Everytime I try to find something I get alot of diabetes diets which is probably good too but wanted something specifically for PCOS. I am hoping metformin helps me too but I am having trouble knowing what I can't eat other than no fat and lo carbs.

I read the "New Glucose Revolution" by Jennie Brand-Miller - they are the low gi experts out of University of Sydney. I mostly took the principles from the book. A lot of Weight Watcher Core recipes follow low gi. Here is a website full of Core recipes http://www.freewebs.com/hwc1973/

A lot of women follow the insulin Resistance diet and have great success - there is a ton of info on the diet and exercise thread.

Good luck!!!

Yeah... give it a few days and your body should adjust. The more gradual you up your dose the less your side effects, but I'm on that dose and it doesn't effect me at all anymore.
