Thank you for sharing all of your success stories. I've been reading this thread trying to maintain a positive attitude towards met. I've been on met for about a month now. I was on 500mg for a week and was feeling fine. As soon as I upped it to 1000mg, I got super sick. I vomited for 2 days and and now it's just been non-stop nausea for the past 3 weeks. I had stared a low gi diet, but since I've been queasy I feel like the only thing I can eat without gagging is crackers and plain cookies. So even though I can't eat much, I've been eating the wrong things and have not yet seen any weight loss. I was supposed to increase the met dosage to 1500, but I know I'll get really sick so I haven't had the nerve.
REW, your story was really inspiring. I'm glad to hear that your triglycerides have gone down- mine have been elevated for a few years now and my previous doc never associated it with pcos.
I'm hoping also that my skin will clear up because it's gotten really bad since I've been off the pill. I'm also praying that I will get af soon and maybe I will finally ovulate. Did anyone not have af with 1000mg, but get it when they increased to 1500mg?
I hope that when I finally increase my dosage to 1500, I will be able to share some success stories with you guys.
Thank you so much for sharing your stories!! they really do give me hope! I've been on Met for a month now up to 1500mg. Go back to the Dr on Thursday,,, I've lost 10lbs this month alone with no exercise. im not really hungry anymore.. I east an english muffin for breakfast and a salad for lunch, and thats about it. I know thats probably not good either, but i jsut dont have any want to eat. Af finally arrived today I was begining to think there was a possiblity Im on cycle day 33 today. Im starting to lose hope... expecially when 2 cousins and 2 of our best friends all told us they were PG on the same day.... It was hard! Im hoping I will be able to share some good news soon!!
Thanks again for all your wonderful stories and good luck to all you lovely ladies!!!
Ladies, I had my 8 week OB appointment yesterday - fun! My new OB (I love him!) said the reason I got pregnant so easily was that I was able to suppress my PCOS symptoms with the Met, diet and exercise. He also wants to keep me on Met for the whole pregnancy to prevent Gestational Diabetes. I am at high risk for that since both my parents and my brother are diabetic and my mom had GD with my brother.
The baby is dating perfectly and has a great heart beat!
Thankfully I have not had any symptoms with Met (except it's helped me to loose weight (16lbs so far). I take 2000mg each morning with breakfast. I asked my doctor to prescribe the 1000mg pills so I wouldn't have to take 4 500mg pill - I hate taking pills and that powder on the pills doesn't help.

Yep - I am due in November and my Dr. has me on Met for the entire time too because he's wanting to be sure that I don't get gestational diabetes because my Father was diabetic (he passed away a little over a year ago). It's interesting though because when I was pregnant with my twin sons back in '99 I wasn't on metformin and I never got gestational diabetes either so the only difference I can think of besides the fact that I am not having twins this time is the age. I don't know - what do you all think?

I've been on med for about 3 months/2,000 mg a day and AF has been regular so far since the first month of taking it. I ovulated this month and I'm kind of curious that 4 days after O I had a pink spotting for about one day. Will it be implantantion bleeding? I so hope so since I've been trying to get pregnant for about 12 years... Did anyone experienced some pink spotting before and is that really implantation bleeding? Thanks for all your help and Good luck to all!!!
My Dr just diagnosed me with PCOS today and gave me a script for Met 1500mg daily. I am a bit confused. He just took blood today and didn't ask me to fast so how does he know I am insulin resistant? What if I am not, should I still be taking this med to treat my infertility and other symptoms? I also am worried about losing weight. I recently lost 20lbs in the last 2 months (not from dieting) I've already lost my appetite for reasons unknown, will this make things worse? Maybe this isn't the right posting to reply to, I know this is supposed to be about success stories( I hope to be one soon) but I just saw that this was the most recently replied posting and I need help with some answers. If anyone can help with this info please let me know.
A lot fo doctors (mine included) don't even test for IR. My doctor says teh test results can be unreliable anyway and he prescribes it regardless. I'm thin to begin with and Yes, it can cause you to loose weight even if you don't want to, but side effects eventually go away. Make sure you are upping your dose gradually to lessen the side effects. I'd suggest going back adn reading through the thread and you'll probalby have all the answers to your questions. Good luck!
I did read about beginning at lower levels and gradually increasing. He didn't suggest this, I'm just to start at 1500 a day. I'm worried about the side effects but I don't want to waste anytime because I want this to kick in as soon as possible. He made an appt to come back in a month to see if its working. I'm afraid of not following his directions and ending up with inconclusive test results. Sorry if I sound scattered at the moment but all this is new(as a reality) today and I have the worst migrane headache. Could this be from the meds I took only a few hours ago or maybe just from a hectic day

Well, certainly its up to you, but if I were you, I'd give him a call and ask him what he thinks about gradually increasing. It could be pretty bad on you if you go full dose right away. Maybe someone else can give their opinion... anyone else out there that started at full dose?
So I was worried about Met for a long time. I was diagnosed July 13th, and told my gyne I wasn't going to take Met until after I got back from my honeymoon. I have been taking Met now for about a week, the s/e aren't too severe. The first day on it was quite interesting, but they have seemed to disappear already. I have noticed that I get full alot faster, which is great. I just hope that it ends up a success story for me, seeing as we are TTC!!
I am so glad to hear that yall have lost weight taking met. I haven't lost any yet but just started taking it. I hope I have a success story to tell soon!
Thanks!
