Hi ladies! So I was taking 500 mg of the Met and I had mild s/e after a few days. I waited a couple of weeks almost 3 I think and I moved up to 1000 mg and I felt terrible!! I got off the Met for 2 weeks because I was really sick of feeling sick but now I want to try it again. This time I want to start out with 1500 mg though. I know some of you think I will have worse s/e but I am hoping my body will acutally adjust faster. Has anyone ever tried this?
Thanks,
Kerri

Default My Success Story

I wanted to post my success story to give hope to others. I've had rregular periods and quite a few other sympoms for a long time Every doctor told me some women don't ovulate just take clomid so after 3 years I got fedup and demanded every blood test known to women! Found out my testosterone was through the roof and even though my glucose came back normal my endo px 1000mg of met per day. I started taking 500mg once a day for a week and increased it to 1000mg. That very month I ovulated and found out yesterday I'm pregnant. I still can't believe it atually but I wanted to post and give hope to thers.

Good Luck Everyone

Curly - that's awesome news!!! Were you following any particular diet or exercise plan?

I've been on Met for about 5 months and I have a regular cycle now after having no cycle at all. This last cycle ended up being 50 days long and I quickly realised that if I went very low carb (strict atkins diet) I ovulated 2 days later and now have AF again a week later. I'm staying on atkins + met and I think that will be my magic mix!

Hi Suz,

Yes I was on a diet. Also I went on my bike abou 3x a week. I bought a couple of low GI diet books and just basically followed that. I very rarely eat a food that is high GI, I stick to low/medium and I found I felt so much better! I still eat carbs but my portions are small, I eat frequently and the carbs are always 100% whole grain. I was mildly overweight before - I'm 5ft, 4 and weighed 155. So far after 1 month I've lost 5 pounds and my belly which was always 2 sizes bigger than my hips flattened down a lot!

It's hard to stic to at times, but the odd time I cheatd I felt absoltel horrible (tired, fuzzy heade etc) that I now stick to it because I feel so much better.

I really think the diet and met did the trick prior to the met my cycles were ever 90+ days and always annovulatory.

Good Luck Suz, I wish you all the best

Morgan- how long were you on Met before BFP?

ker310- I actually began taking Met last week and began on 1500mg daily. I began on Thursday and I am now beginning to have s/e worth being annoyed about. I am giving the meds a chance to adjust but I cannot imagine living like this indefinetly. I am hoping like most said that s/e will go away.

Curly- Thanks so much for your success story it is definetly appreciated right about now when s/e are kicking in and I was doubting whether it was worth staying on. Like you I am 5'4 and weighed 155 last year. I wanted to lose a few lbs and I've lost 20 within the last 2 1/2 months. I am scared with Met because of the nausea and low appetite I will lose alot more and I don't want to. I also would get AF every 90 days (anovulatory). I know wvery woman is different but am hoping since our situations are similar, I might have success as well. Dr told me don't bother ttc this month but DH & I bd around (alleged) O lol anyway. Just "praying for positive" but realistically I know to just give things time

what is GI? I am trying to figure out the best things to eat to minimize s/e.

Water-Lilly

Congrats on your pregnancy!! I wanted to ask you a questions since you and i are so similar in our PCOS and we both got pregnant the same way. Do you take met during your pregnancy? Did you stop after 1st tri or are you on it throughout? Did you also take progesterone in the first tri? Do you know what your progesterone level was when tested?

Thanks so much for your help!!! My p4 results should be in Friday and my 2nd beta will be in tomorrow so I'm just trying to decide if I want to go on progesterone supplements or not.

Thanks again

GI is Glycemic Index and it's a diet for people who have diabetes or PCOS. If you eat foods that are low/medium they are foods that raise your blood sugar slowly and minimally making you full longer and less hungry. This way your insulin isn't spiked high. Get the book by Rick Gallop (Living the GI Diet) - it's a great place to start!

Hi Curly -

With my first PG with DD, I took 1500mg Met until 9 weeks, after a confirmed heart beat! With my current PG, I made a choice to continue Met (1500mg) until 14 weeks! I did notice that the Met did not help my sugars while PG .. it actually made them worst. But I will definitely be right back on it once I delivery this child!! I am a big advocate for MET and PCOS!!! It’s a miracle Drug! As far as Progesterone goes, it's not something that my OB worried about .. I never got checked for it ... Most women don't have a problem with P4, only if you have reoccurring M/S! You should talk to your OB about that!

Default Well it's working for someone--but not me--can u help?

Hi...Been on Met for 90 days to adjust....
Last year, my FSH was 14...Justdid a clomid challenge this week and it's down to 11. Still, my doctor wants to meet with me to discuss an 11....

11 FSH is borderline isn't it? I can't believe he'd stop treating me as a patient..

What are my options?

Congrats Curly! I'm happy to hear someone getting pregnant so early on Metformin! My regular doctor wouldn't perscribe Tigan (for nausea) for me yesterday, because she thinks I may be pregnant already. I just started on the Metformin on August 2nd, so I don't *think* so, but I could be wrong. She thinks I could have ovulated on the 14th if all went according to plan, but the last time we did the wild thing was the 11th. So, I dunno... We didn't really try for baby around ovulation time because I've been feeling so pooey. We are going to give it our best shot next month, hopefully after my body has adjusted to the sideaffects. What do ya'll think?

Hi Praying - I started the Met at 500mg dose in September 2006 and stayed on that dose for about two weeks then gradually increased to 1000mg, 1500mg, 1700mg and started taking 2000mg by late November 2006 and thats the dose that got me to ovulate on my own. I ovulated in early December 06' but did not get pregnant that cycle. I ovulated again about 22 days after that AF and got my positive PG test January 28th 2007.

So I was on it about 5 months before receiving my BFP.

Believe me, after never ever being able to have a period on my own, I was just plain estatic that in December 06 Met got me to O and then have AF for the first time in probably a decade! NEVER would have even tried to hope for a BFP the very next month!
