Points: 216.06 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 216.06 | I just started on 500 mg of Metformin about three weeks ago and have already lost three pounds. I feel like I really should have gained since my birthday was in the middle of that three weeks and I had a few too many really good meals eating out and getting really filling and fatty foods, I just knew I had to have gained something. Also I have never had a bad problem with excess hair other than one hair that always grows back in on the same spot on my chin that I constantly have to pluck. I have not seen that darn little hair since I started taking the Metformin so good luck so far. I just got diagnosed with PCOS about three weeks ago but have had migraines for years. I am wondering if there is any connection. I was only diagnosed with PCOS by going to my doctor and questioning my worsening migraines and asking them to test me for anything and everything to make my head stop hurting. I had heard of PCOS on TV before though and knew it fit me but tried to ignore it. I guess its better that I finally face the facts. Anyone else have horrible migraines that last for months at a time? |

I still have days when it makes me sick but the positives out weigh the negatives. We are TTC and I have high hopes that with Met this will happen.
P.S. I love reading the posts from people who have gotten pregnant while taking Met.

Also, I give credit to prayers, and to God for answering them! #1 We ttc'd #1 for 14 months, were diagnosed with PCOS, and then were started Met right away. (Lost 20 lbs in about 2 months) 1st month I was on 1000 mg -no AF. 2nd month we upped the dose to 1500mg and no AF! I was so discouraged after hearing the success stories. Dr gave me provera to induce a period, and it didn't come! He told me to take a pg test 'just in case" and it was positive! I was 5 weeks pg! Never even got my AF at all! I immediately stopped Met due to Dr.s orders, and baby was fine. #2 This time not quite as miraculous! (I did lose weight again). We started Met and it took 22 months of Met to get pg! Not only that, but when I started the Met, this time it gave me terrible fatigue and my hair started falling out. The notion of taking vitamin B12 was pretty new at the time, but I tried it, and it fixed all those things! I was having regular cycles but they seemed to be getting longer. (37-60+ days) We actually started the adoption process, and then had a surprise BFP. This time I was kept on Met for the 1st trimester. Baby was fine. However, both pg (I believe it was because I went off the Met) I gained 50 lbs even though I tried not to. TTC #3 Well to the present! I started Met at the beginning of June. I had one "perfect" cycle, and now I am on a crazy cycle, and I could relate to Audrey with the bleeding issue. This whole cycle has almost been light bleeding! (and it is not over yet). I actually am going to take a pg test just to rule that out, but mostly I think my body is just adjusting to the Met again after almost 2 years of not being on it. (pg and bf) I have so far lost 10 lbs even though I desperately tried to lose it while bf with no results. I really hope things don't take long this time, but I try to let God decide, and rest in His decisions. Either way you look at it, He used Metformin to help me, and it was definitely successful! I wish all you ladies the very best!

I've only been on Met one month but got AF three days after starting it. I think I O'd yesterday although my temp didn't go up today, I had all the other signs. It would be amazing if I did O because I haven't for years! We'll see how this Met thing goes. |

I have lost about 8 lbs so far without any big changes in diet/exercise. So far I havent gotten AF, but i'm only on day 30 of my cycle and i usually have a 34-40 day cycle. I'm going to start charting so i can see if i ovulate or not. Hoping this is my miracle pill and will help me finally get pregnant! |

My Mood: Points: 473.07 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 473.07 | Just wanted to update everyone.
I was diagnosed with PCOS in August '06. Started Met in October (2000mg). Switched to Avandamet in beginning of December (2000mg Met, 4mg Avandia). Had my first AF on my own at the end of Dec. Kept taking Avandamet and kept having regular cycles since then. I just found out mid August '07 that I am pregnant! So now I'm back to plain Metformin, but at 2500 mg a day. Also, I have lost 25 pounds since October last year, which isn't a ton compared to lots of you ladies, but I haven't really altered my eating and exercise habits, just kept eating in moderation and working out when I could. Hopefully after the baby, I can get back to loosing weight! Just wanted to give everyone out there ttc hope that Metformin can and will correct the hormones in your body and do the trick!
Good luck!

Points: 647.63 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 647.63 | I started Met a few weeks ago, and have not encountered many side effects. After upping to 1500mg, I did feel a tinge of nausea whenever I went too long without food, but otherwise I have been pleasantly surprised by how little the drug has affected me. I also suspect that I ovulated this month, which would be a tremendous blessing. Fingers crossed. |

Points: 173.55 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 173.55 | Met works My story is I was diagnosed with PCOS at 16yrs old after having emergency surgery and had my left ovary and tube removed because of infection had set in due to the multiple cysts on my ovary. (Don't worry my doctor told me they'd never seen anything like it.)
My first husband and I tried clomid, but never met. We ended up going our seperate ways after eight years. Because he wanted a family. My current husband and love of my life have been together for five years. We'd been ttc for nearly two years while on met and clomid. I won't lie I wasen't taking my met at first the way I was suppost to. (It made me gassy in the begining.) I decided for my health it was better to take it regularly. My cycles then become regular each month. But no such luck. My husband and I went to a fertility clinic to discuss our options. The doctor told us we'd probibly never concieve on our own. The doctor took labwork from me and my husband and told me to come it when I started my next cycle. (At that time I was 8days late.) I remember joking with my husband on the ride home wouldn't it be funny if he called and told us we were already pregnant. Four hours later the doctor called my on my cell phone and told me I was already pregnant. I had to ask him three time's to make sure he had the right person and the correct test results before I could acept the results. I won't lie after I got off the phone I jumped up and down like a little kid and cried tears of joy. What was funny is my husband thought I was joking with him when I told him the doctor called and said we're already pregnant. It took him a minute. I told him I'd never joke with him about something like that. MET WORKS. Just give it time. It takes time to adjust the dose. Work with your doctor and keep notes. Some women need to be on as much as 1000mg twice a day. I only have one ovary and it worked for me. I wish everyone the same success.

My Mood: Points: 311.42 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 311.42 | Well, I am happy to say that after being on Met for 11 days, I have already lost 6lbs!! Last week was tough, but I was also on my first period in over a year. The best thing for me, is that the Met has totally changed my eating habits. I wont lie - I was hitting up fast food twice a day for the last 3-4 years. I have realized that anytime I eat anything greasy or sugary, I really regret it. So, I think this has been the "motivation" that I have needed to change my eating habits. It's really encouraging to read everyones success stories! Also, is anyone else on birth control?? My dr gave me Yasmine...anyone else taking this? |
