You are most fertile generally about 12-16 days BEFORE you get your period, so unless you get your period at the exact same time every month its hard to predict. There are signs to watch for though. Check out www.fertilityfriend.com for a short cut version, but I prefer Reading the book Taking Charge of your Fertility (look it up on amazon to see that its got almost 1000 reviews on it... obviously plenty of other women have found it extremely helpful) You can check out your library for it too, but if ever there was a book to buy, that'd be it! I've read it at least 4 times, and plan on having my daughter read it as a teenager. |

My Mood: Points: 467.23 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 467.23 | Metformin has worked GREAT for me. I take 1700 mg (850 in the morning and 850 at bed time) and am now 30 weeks pregnant. I still take metformin and haven't had any problems with the pregnancy. I had 2 miscarriages before this one, back in 2004 and at that time I wasn't on metformin or the progesterone they put me on for trimester 1 and 2 this time. Anyway, once I started taking metformin, it took about 6 months and then I was ovulating but not every 28 days or whatever. We got really lucky this time and feel sooo blessed. :o) Anyway, I just wanted to spread a little hope your way if any of you are trying to conceive.

My Mood: Points: 5,310.58 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 5,310.58 | Thanks from a newbie! Thank you to everyone for posting success stories while on MET. I need the encouragement!
I have been on Met (500 mg 3x a day) for 3 weeks and I am sick as a dog. But Met has helped me lose approx 10 lbs in the 3 weeks. I am another 10 lbs from my goal weight and I am hoping that the weight loss will help with the ovulation. Wish me luck! TTC for 9 months and it is seriously getting old
I am hoping to be a success story soon |

My Mood: Points: 171.76 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 171.76 | OMG, AF is here!!! Never thought I would be so happy about that!!! I have been on Met for one week (one pill night until today, now it is 2/day)... Wow, I am SO excited! Just have to pray this is a sign and that things will work out and I will get pregnant... Thanks for all the encouragement and advice. Means so much!
Also, I am reading that a lot of women on Met are losing weight--I have not shed a pound... Is that normal? |

So... thanks to Metformin I conceived again (I got pregnant last year after only 1 month on Met).
So for everybody just starting on Met and feeling horrible because of the side effects: hang in there, it will go away!! Good things can happen!!! |

My Mood: Points: 1,431.57 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,431.57 | My metformin story:
Started Met (i think twice a day) in 2003. I ovulated and had regular periods for the first time in my life. I was on it for 4 months before we had a contraception mishap (wasn't TTC), and got pregnant. Very very happy (and completely shocked). I went off it when I knew I could possibly be pregnant, and I just restarted Met this week because my hair is getting thinner, my chin is getting hairier, and I cannot shift this weight. Here's hoping it helps!
p.s. fantastic to read other success stories |

Points: 1,111.84 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,111.84 | I want to start Met So I talk to my Dr. about Met again. At first they thought no for me since I am 5'9 and 120 lbs. In my defense I am small boned, have chicken legs and all my weight goes to my stomach...thanks pcos. Anyway, they said they would start me on Met after I start working out 4x a weeks, take herbs and continue on my low carb high protein diet. What do you ladies think? Should I start Met since then later???? I am 32 with 5 year old conceived with no problems.

My Mood: Points: 3,221.03 Bank: 0.97 Total Points: 3,221.99 | Sorry I've been gone for so long, just alot going on.
I just want to let anyone new here know that if you hang on, the se get easier. At least for me they did (maybe I'm lucky). I am aware that everyone is different and their body's react differently. I just want to post something positive.
Began Met in Aug (this is my 2nd month on). My dr didn't start me low to adjust, he just started me on 1500mg at night daily. for the 1st week and 1/2 I was pretty much miserable. No appetite, mood swings, stomach pains, the runs(eeww) and bad nausea. I found a while ago that eating sunflower seeds(sucking on the salty shell) helps with nausea. I've passed this along to pregger friends and others with diff conditions that cause nausea and they all say that it helps. Also certain foods (greasy and high carbs) made s/e worse. Anywho, I called and spoke to a nurse who said to lower the dose and work my way back up but I am ttc and don't want to waste any time so I stuck with it. I will say a little after my 1st 2 wks, I felt alot better. My appetite is back ( I am not trying to lose weight) so I don't think Met alone will make you lose significant weight. Granted there are still some light s/e here and there but it has become totally bearable for me.
So....I got AF last month big accomplishment for me becasue I wouldn't get AF regularly on my own. I went for my checkup and dr said he didn't think I ovulated so he started me on Clomid 50mg cd5-9. I am really hoping that this works for me though I don't think anything this month because my temps are still wacky. Clomid however is giving me hotflashes and ugly moods which I can't stand.
Back to Met.....I did get AF 1st month on it....I hope it continues to work. S/e did get alot better. My acne got alot better almost immediately after starting Met. |
