Met has worked for me three times now... whatever month I start it in is the month I give birth the follwoing year... thats how regular it is for me! |

SO glad I found this site. I was prescribed Met last April, however have been irrationally scared to take it due to hearing about the s/e. We have been TTC for almost 2 years without success. Dx'd with PCOS last year and feel hopeful that we can conceive with treatments. After reading several posts on this site I am deciding to bite the bullet today and take the Met with lunch, (and milk) . Really want to thank everyone who participates on this site. I get so much hope from you all. If anyone wants to chat or needs support please feel free to contact me.

I was really hoping taking met would regulate me and i would ovulate and have no more problems but I guess that isn't going to happen. But I am really happy to hear that it has helped some. I guess just depends on your body etc. |
it may be a pituitary problem or something more serious than pcos....you should have your doctore check that if it hasnt been checked already....sorry to hear that it hasnt worked though |

I am a thin cyster and I guess they don't think I need it. Does anyone have any info about Insulin Resistance numbers and Met? Has anyone else done the bloodwork to see if you have IR? I have read that test results can be inaccurate. We have TTC for almost three years and I am losing hope at being successful with anything but IVF. | I was really worried that Met wouldn't work for me because my Insulin Resistance test came back normal...I just knew that meant that this wouldn't hellp me get pregnant and I was bummed out but I checked with the girls on here and with my doctor's nurse and both sources reassured me that you don't have to be IR in order for Met to work for you. I agree with the other person's post about finding the right dose. I have only been taking it for a month but two weeks ago I got AF!!! Don't give up hope. I wish you lots and lots of babies and I hope that if you're not able to try Met again that you find something else that works. My hubby and I have been trying for 3 1/2 years.

I immediately gave up simple sugars--i want this to work. I just started exercising again after couching it for 9 months....need to lose 120 lbs, of which i have gained in 3 yrs. I have 10 sizes of clothing, and i just want my pants to be loose again. I really thought i was crazy, gaining 30-50 lbs a year. i don't even recognize myself anymore. i'm hoping this is the push i need.

after i gained 35 lbs in two months this year without really having eaten terribly i stopped getting my period after going off the pill, i was diagnosed with pcos and put on met.
here's to hoping to find a solution! |

Fewer side effects than I feared. Mainly slight queasiness, metallic taste in mouth, but have lost my craving for chocolate/sugars particularly in the late afternoon! Am finding it much easier to stick to no bread/rice/pasta. Almost 9 pounds lost. |

My Mood: Points: 510.11 Bank: 12,982.41 Total Points: 13,492.52 | HI everyone! This is my first post, but I have been cruising the threads for a little over a week now. I was FINALLY diagnosed in September. I have been married for almost 13 years with no hope of getting pregnant. I had a laporoscopy in 2004 and was diagnosed with endometriosis and a uterine defect. My ovaries "appeared" to be normal at the time. My husband and I finally went to see a reproductive endocrinologist / IVF specialist and after vaginal ultrasound I was diagnosed. FINALLY, a diagnosis! I cried and told my husband that FINALLY someone was listening to me and I wasn't REALLY crazy!! I have been on prenatal vitamins for years and Metformin since early September (07) - 1500 mg (500mg 3x day). I didn't have ANY of the s/e I was warned about with the exception of just plain feeling wiped out because I started the full dose too soon.... ha ha.... I didn't have the GI upset so I assumed I was good to go with the full dosage. I have not had the glucose tolerance test done, but my insulin and glucose levels were normal in all of my lab work. I have seen MAJOR changes in this short period of time taking Metformin! The acne on my face has cleared completely, the little chin hairs have almost stopped growing (I only pluck a few every couple of days instead of a ton daily!) and some of this FAT around my middle is starting to slowly go away. (I have gained almost 40 pounds over the last 3 years.) My outlook on life is much better and I actually have a renewed faith and hope. We are scheduled for our first try at IVF in January 08. I appreciate all of the comments and conversations on this site. The more we share with each other, the better informed we are! Good luck to each and every one of you! I am always here to talk if anyone needs an "ear". Hugs to all! |

My Mood: Points: 335.09 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 335.09 | Hi everyone! I'm new to this board, was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005 and just started taking Met over the summer... I have gotten my period and had some symptoms of ovulation this time! I'm going to start testing to see... but am hopeful, esp. after seeing all the posts. The first few weeks I was on Met I got terrible cramps in my stomach... but they went away. Now I've gone from 1000 to 1500 and am having cramps again. Hopefully they will go away again... DH and I have been TTC and may have a chance now! |
