My Mood: Points: 4,574.76 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 4,574.76 | first success I hope to have further success to share... but I do consider this a significant success thanks to Metformin. I started Met. 1500mg on Oct. 10th and four days later I started spotting, and then about three days later AF started! It lasted about 5 days and then stopped, just like a normal AF would. Prior to this I had not had AF on my own since June and now I'm hoping to add ovulation to this equation sometime in the next 6 months! Never thought I'd be so happy to see AF

I just got her again, 2 months in a row... Met is wonderful. Although I just started 850/2x day and I have to say the se are horrible with this larger dose... Hoping in the next few days that changes though.
Anyway, hurray to all the cysters who inspire us every single day on this board--Having that gives us the hope and courage to dream. |

My Mood: Points: 125.73 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 125.73 | Hey everyone. Im new here. But I just wanted to share whats going on with me. I started met a week ago @ 500 mg I am supposed to up it today to 500mg 2x a day. So far the 500mg have been ok. No bad SE. My periods have always been regular and last month my blood test showed I ovulated. But still not BFP. I dont know how met it going to help with getting pregnant. I know the Dr said my insulin levels where high and that made my testosterone level high. But he could not tell me for sure if that is why I am not getting pregnant. I just want a BFP so I hope Met will help.

Points: 3,082.69 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,082.69 | what a wonderful thread!! Hello!!! I'm a newbie and I came across this site when I googled Insulin Resistance. I am just elated with all these wonderful success stories and this thread gives me such hope!! I haven't "offically" been diagnosed with pcos JUST yet - but I WAS diagnosed with Insulin Resistance - which my doc says (sometimes) goes hand in hand with pcos. I've never had a problem with af (thankfully) and I have no children (nor am I married or ttc). I'm on yasmin FOR that reason. But my doc just perscribed me metformin to get the insulin resistance under control. I have been exercising and eating healthy for 6 months with literally ZERO weight loss. I've been exactly the same weight for 6 months (for more on this my story is in my profile.) I started the metformin on Tuesday night and now, being saturday, I'm down three pounds!!! I'm VERY excited and so happy to find such a wonderful community! Everyone's stories here give me such hope! |

My Mood: Points: 473.07 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 473.07 | Hey Spunky Chic 420,
I saw that you had asked if anyone takes 2500 mg per day. I haven't seen many people on this site above 2000. Most seem to be taking 1500 or 2000. Before I got pregnant I was taking 2000 mg daily of Avandamet (which is 2000 mg of Metformin and 4 mg of Avandia). It is not good to continue the Avandia when pregnant, so when I found out, my doctor switched me back to regular metformin and upped my dose to 2500 mg. So yes, I am taking that much. My doc said that was the maximum dose. I think it is helping my blood sugar / insulin resistance levels with the increased demand on my body with the baby. I am 13 weeks along already and I am still on the 2500 and probably will be throughout the pregnancy. My doc is going to lower my dose as much as possible during breastfeeding though.
Hope this give you helpful information.

| I think the current "magic dose" these days is 2000 mg, but last time I was on 2850 mg. (and I'm very thin and never been tested for IR) For me the dosage hasn't been much of an issue... I just have to be on it 3-4 months no matter what and than I get pregnant. |

My Mood: Points: 5,556.29 Bank: 2,984.39 Total Points: 8,540.67 | Hi Cysters-
Just wanted to share my success story with Metformin-
My husband and conceived our first baby in June 2006 after 2 months of trying, without meds or the knowledge that I had PCOS. We miscarried the following month and doctors could not give us an explanation. We started trying to conceive again in Feb 2007 with no success and by July I finally decided to try and find out if I had PCOS, like I had always suspected.
My general practioner said my testosterone was high and I may have it and he put me on 500mg of Metformin daily and referred me to an endocrinologist. I took the Met for one week and then stopped because I wanted to have my insulin tested and not have the test altered because of the Met.
I went to an endocrinologist who "unofficially" diagnosed me on 8/29/07 and had me start on 1000mg daily AFTER I had my series of tests done (including the glucose tolerance test). I started 1000mg on 8/31 right after my blood work was done, and didn't really have any side-effects. I'm a relatively thin cyster already and I had already changed my diet in July to a type of low-carb, high protein, low-sugar diet so I'm sure that helped the Met do it's job.
Apparently, the 1000mg of Met and diet must have done the trick because after 8 months of TTC and only being on Met for one week, my DH and I conceived on 9/7 and we got our BFP on 9/16!!! I was officially diagnosed with PCOS the following day, at which time, I could've cared less because I was finally pregnant! My endocrinologist said that my insulin was fine but she believed it was because I was thinner and eating properly. She said she believes that every woman with PCOS has some degree of an Insulin Resistance.
I'm now almost 10 weeks pregnant and this whole pregnancy feels different than the last one. I was afraid to post this success story too early, but I figured the point was that I finally conceived and so far, we're doing okay. I would say that it's a success!
I hope that helps some of you and I also hope this helps you "Keysfergy."
Good luck all!!!
