Hey everyone. It's been a little while since I've posted, but I've lurked a little when I've had a chance! :-) This is so the most awesome site ever. Whoever created this site........THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
Anywho... CONGRATULATIONS Didispunk! SO happy for you! Also congrats to Cookin' Mama, thoughts are with you! Met is really a God send for alot of people! I send best wishes to everyone who comes to this site.
I have a little success story to share. Well, as I have mentioned on SC before, I was scared to take Met when it was originally prescribed to me back in April of this year. I delayed taking it because I was irrationally worried about the side effects. I found this site on October 11th and after reading all the success stories and getting great support here, I decided I needed to bite the bullet and take the Met! I only have about 2 or 3 periods per year and was hoping it would help with that so I could O then hopefully conceive. So, I started 500mg on 10/12 and up'd it to 1000mg on 10/22. I have had only mild s/e so far. Well, tonight I started AF!!!! Never thought it would happen the same month I started the Met! Hoping this leads to bigger and better things!!!! I know it's a small step, but a necessary one nonetheless. Again Thank you all and Best Wishes to everyone! HANG IN THERE! We're in it together!

Congrats Cookin mama. I am hoping I am next. I had a similar situation in Nov. 2003. We miscarried after two months of trying and haven't been able to get pregnant since. I was dx with pcos a year ago and finally just started met yesterday. I am starting at 250 a day and then they are doing a gradual increase up to 1000 mg this month atleast. I hope I feel better and get pregnant.

My husband and conceived our first baby in June 2006 after 2 months of trying, without meds or the knowledge that I had PCOS. We miscarried the following month and doctors could not give us an explanation. We started trying to conceive again in Feb 2007 with no success and by July I finally decided to try and find out if I had PCOS, like I had always suspected.
My general practioner said my testosterone was high and I may have it and he put me on 500mg of Metformin daily and referred me to an endocrinologist. I took the Met for one week and then stopped because I wanted to have my insulin tested and not have the test altered because of the Met.
I went to an endocrinologist who "unofficially" diagnosed me on 8/29/07 and had me start on 1000mg daily AFTER I had my series of tests done (including the glucose tolerance test). I started 1000mg on 8/31 right after my blood work was done, and didn't really have any side-effects. I'm a relatively thin cyster already and I had already changed my diet in July to a type of low-carb, high protein, low-sugar diet so I'm sure that helped the Met do it's job.
Apparently, the 1000mg of Met and diet must have done the trick because after 8 months of TTC and only being on Met for one week, my DH and I conceived on 9/7 and we got our BFP on 9/16!!! I was officially diagnosed with PCOS the following day, at which time, I could've cared less because I was finally pregnant! My endocrinologist said that my insulin was fine but she believed it was because I was thinner and eating properly. She said she believes that every woman with PCOS has some degree of an Insulin Resistance.
I'm now almost 10 weeks pregnant and this whole pregnancy feels different than the last one. I was afraid to post this success story too early, but I figured the point was that I finally conceived and so far, we're doing okay. I would say that it's a success!
I hope that helps some of you and I also hope this helps you "Keysfergy."
Good luck all!!!

Wow....I am 36 and only got my period 3 or 4 times in my life on my own (now I realize the year I got my period a few times was because I was low carbing it). I have been on Metformin for 38 days. About 2 weeks ago I got a Positive Ovulation Test Strip and my nipples were sore for 4-5 days around that time. So today I am having some spotting....so I think AF is on her way! Unbelievable....

Thanks for the info we are ttc with met and acupuncture and herb but i uped my dose and it seems to be working much better.congrats and wish you the best
Good2do- I'm so happy that you finally got AF and that your body is starting to work as it was designed! I can't wait to continue Met after my pregnancy (I'm stopping it at 14 weeks preg) and see if it gives me a regular period, too! Good luck to you!!!
Nikiep- First off, I'm so sorry about your m/c...I know that I didn't think I could handle that one more time. I know that you mentioned your doctor is only starting you out at 250mg daily...is there a reason he wants to start you so low? If you have a pretty tough tummy like I do, I might suggest asking him if you can start higher. My endo said 500mg a day was low and told me to do one in the morning and one at night- total of 1000mg daily. I just took the pill in between meals (meaning I ate half my meal, took the pill, then ate the rest of my meal) and I really did have minimal side effects. Anyway, if you feel more comfortable increasing slowly, stick with it, but I just know I was anxious to get the ball rolling and felt like I could handle it. I hope it brings your BFP!
VRS- Congrats on the positive O kit and that AF is on her way! I hope your next cycle brings a BFP!!
Just wanted to say thank you for all your Congrats, again, and said good luck to all you ladies taking Met! I really didn't think our insulin could throw our bodies off so much and make us not ovulate or get periods- just really hard to see the connection!! Weird, but I'm glad they found that Met works for a lot of us! Good luck everyone!!

Because I am a thin cyster and my gluclose test came back normal, I had to beg for the met. I agreed to start at 250mg for days 1-4 and then gradually increase up to 1000.

Sorry to hear abotu your mc... yes, I stay on met through my whole pregnancy and have all three times.
my first mini success story - AF came today - the witch came on Halloween - how funny But I'm super excited. It may have come on its own at this time, but I'm choosing to believe that after 2 months, it was the met

It is so helpful to be able to come on here and read how other women are doing with Met. Esp VRSweeney- I have averaged 3 periods a year, and really only when I have happened to have cut out sugar, so I completely understand.
Well, I have been on Dianben (met) for three months, and I just finished my second period (a perfect month apart, and after going 8 months since my last one.) Now I can start using Toni Weschler's techniques for charting and figuring out when I O!
In case there are other lurkers like me, this stuff really does WORK.
