Hi! I am a new member on this site, which I actually discovered a few months ago. I am currently 21, but have been struggling with a year and a half of symptoms of PCOS and insulin resistance. I FINALLY have been diagnosed with IR two days ago. It took 6 doctors and 18 months of frustration!!!!! I am a strong advocate of getting multiple opinions......it helps knowing more about health though since I am a pharmacy student and my boyfriend is a medical student. In any case, I am still scheduled to get an ultrasound on day five of my cycle (hopefully sometime in the next week or two....), but I have been started on 500mg Metformin ER a day.....and I have 30 day perscription plus refills....which makes me a little nervous because I have a feeling that to really get the benefits I will need to be increased. I have eaten a low carb diet for the last 12-18 months, excercising 5x a week for 45 minutes (I've exercised regularly since high school). I would love to get back to a more normal weight (about 30-35 pounds to loose), so I really am hoping that this helps. As well I have had a lot of hormone issues so the doctor is helping me with that. My doctor is AWESOME since he doesn't just perscribe birth control without figuring out what is actually causing the problem!! That is the key!!!

Default Metformin Xr Really Working For Me. Very Happy.

I am very happy with my progress on Metformin.

I have only been on Metformin XR for a few weeks and only on 1000mg for a week and going up to 1500mg tomorrow at dinner but I am happy with the results so far.

I have gone from 79kgs to 75kgs -(whats that in American haha 174 pounds to 165 pounds) and not changed anything much. I am sorry to say but the exercise program hasn't started really no matter how much i TALK about it - I occasionally walk and I have in general been trying to eat LOW GI and no sweet things.

I have only lost a few kilograms but the best thing is I am slowly getting my waist back. Its not so much how much weight I have lost (and I think that will continue) but where I am losing it from. I am losing it from waist.

My first goal is 65kgs (143 pounds) then 60kg (135 pounds) and I feel the Metformin is REALLY helping me, I am borderline IR and feel that if anyone is hesitant to take a drug - don't be as it could really help you to lose weight which is important for PCOS women.

It doesn't mean you have to be on it forever and I would reccommend XR as I haven't had any really really bad side affects. Slight nausea and a bit of D but not to any great extent and am sure its temporary.

I find Met reduces my appetite and sugar/carb cravings dramatically. I finally feel normal again and not like a total hungry pig all the time (sorry but this increase in appetite is common in PCOS and it made me feel like a freak, I was always the one to go for 2nds as I was still HUNGRY, my family made me feel bad as they didn't understand).. now I am happy with a small portioned size dinner and they have really noticed the reduction in appetite and are happy for my weight loss and how met is affecting me for the better.

I am looking forward to more weight loss! Go METFORIN!!

I FEEL INSULIN RESISTANCE IS THE ROOT OF ALL PCOS WEIGHT GAIN ESPECIALLY AROUND WAIST AND METFORMIN IS THE KEY.

Red face Hey everyone

Good morning to all,

I am on my stupid tww and I can't wait to test, I hope everyone here gets their heart desire, I hope we all see a BFP when we test either when we're taking a OPK or if we're taking a HPT.

We'll my af is suppose to arrive on the 9 so I'll be expecting to see it anytime from the 9-12 if it doesn't shows up then I'll be testing on my Birthday day November 13th, I just want to be in everyones pray and send alot of baby dust my way, for I have been ttc#1 for a real long time.

This month I have finally experience some ovulation cramps so thats why I am really excited this month, but I wouldn't put to much of my hopes up, this is my 2nd month on metformin, so I hope it work

Default ferning using ovatel

Well, I started Metformin back in August. I've been using ovatel, which checks your ovulating using saliva. Today for the first time some 'ferning' which means i am likely to ovulate this month!!!

So happy!! -I know this is only the begining but I had convinced myself that I was gonna need clomid.

Hi -- I'm new too. I think it' very frustrating trying to get someone to pay attention to you when you say you are having hormone issues. I am glad you finally got someone's attention! I too am on 500mg ER and am not sure it will be enough yet. I am having some issues already (less than 2 months) with some symptoms returning. Leave the door open to increasing your dosage!! Good Luck-- it does help.

I've been on Metformin now for three weeks. I have to say WOW! I can't believe the results. The s/e's aren't terrible, but man make sure you are close to a bathroom when you eat something you know you are not supposed to eat. My most major thing is dropping 7.5lbs without changing a whole heck of a lot. I was already following a low GI lifestyle. I can say I definately need to step up my exercise. I hope this keeps up. I want to drop 100lbs in a year. I would be thrilled with that. Hears hoping.

Good Luck all.

I've been eating more veggies, less potatoes. I still drink a cup of coffee a day which I am sure if I stop that I would do better, but I am not ready to give up my coffee. I drink just water and the occasional glass of iced tea during the day. Mostly just water. I quit drinking soda over a year ago and when I do have a glass I only drink things like root beer, but that is usually once every 6 months. Not very often.

There is a great pocket book written by Dr. Shari Leiberman about the low GI lifestyle. She created Transitions lifestyle which is a low GI system of eating. She has pre-packaged foods if you don't want to thinking about finding low GI foods, but using the book has helped me a lot. I think the only way you can get the book is through this website abofinfam.unfranchise.com, but I am not positive that is the only way to get it. That is how I got it.

Hello ladies... When I started taking met in June, I weighed 327lbs. Now in Nov. I am down 46lbs and still losing. I am taking 2000mg of met and in the middle of Oct. I got my 1st period in 16yrs on my own. It lasted 4 days, that was what they used to last, anywhere from 3-5 days. When I was younger I went on BCPs and when my DH decided it was time to TTC I went off and never got a period. last known period on my own was when I was 16-17. I am now on CD 20 and I am feeling aching on my right side which is dif. feeling than a menstrual cramp. I also have hunks of what looks like clear CM.

if any of you have doubts if met is working for you. STICK with it. I was stupid and got off it yrs ago but after a failed adoption, i figured if I was going to have children I would have be the one who gave them to me. I have never felt so in power of my life and met has been right beside me. Sorry for rambling on. Take care my friends. IM me if you have any questions, I love to talk LOL

The CM you mentioned are definitely positive signs of ovulation.....while women not ovulating can get those, it still is a good sign!

Glad to hear things are working out for you! I just started Met a few weeks ago and I'm HOPING it will help me lose weight and regulate my cycle!
